Are the Sako 85 Finnlites worth the money? Speaking in reguards to lets say the Remington 700 Mountain Rifle. Or the Winchester model 70 featherweight?

Thanks,
Duane

Yes if you like them. I've had several M70's and a couple of mountain rifles and they are a bit hit and miss. All the Sako rifles I've ever owned were extremely accurate and functioned pretty much flawlessly.

I much prefer a Sako rifle compared to a factory 700 or model 70,but I really don't like the Finnlite. They are too light in the muzzle ,and just don't balance properly for me,which allows for too much muzzle lift, and a less stable shooting position. In short,I don't shoot them as accurately as I do other rifles, and it takes me longer to get the muzzle down, and the scope back on target if a second shot is required.

They don't "feel" right in my hands, either. Eagleye.

Only if you get a free "SAKO" hat with the purchase. ;)

IMHO implying a low weight rifle by sneaking "Lite" into the model name is marketing at it's finest.

Nice rifles. Chunky-monkeys though. Some fat chicks are purty but I wouldn't spend that kind of money to hang out a day in the mountains with them.

The short action Finnlights come as light as 6-3/16lbs,which to me qualifies them as a lightweight rifle.

Fair enough. Thank goodness they didn't name it the "Finn-mega-ultra-lite".
If they put any thought, time or effort into including a high quality light weight stock as per Weatherby or Kimbers offerings, they would have a winner for their price point. I certainly have not heard or seen anything bad about the rifles personally.

As an ultralight rambling/mountain rifle they wouldn't even qualify to my short list. After you plop the 2000 dollar plus action in your 700 dollar Mcmillan edge you're getting dangerously close to custom rifle territory. ;)

I think the accuracy guarantee is cool though.

i really like sako rifles, own one, but for the money I expect more then a cheap tupperware stock.

I really like the new M70 stainless rifles though.

Re: Finnlight

I have;
2 Sako 85 Finnlights in 30 06
1 Sako 85 Finnlight in 270
1 Sako 85 Finnlight in 7mm 08
1 Sako 85 in 338 win mag
1 Sako A7 in 30 06
1 Sako A7 in 308

All the Sakos are extremely accurate and very well built every single one shoots sub moa using factory ammunition. Have 4 model 70s and only one, my model 70 Featherweight in 270 shoots consistant sub moa. I have 2 Remington Model 7 Stainless rifle one in 243 and one in 7mm 08 and have had 3 in 308 that were pretty darn accurate as well. The Sako Finnlights are tough but so are the model 7s and both are very nice top carry all day long. ;)

If you are paying $2000 plus for a Sako Finnlight, you are shopping at the wrong place.

I had a Sako FL in 308 win. in my hands today, darn nice rifle. I found the action smoother then my old Sako hunter in 7-08. Looks like I might be going back in the morning to spend a little hard earned money :O How the 23% off LeBarons is offering atm temps me so... Thanks for the input guys.

14% sales tax on 1800$ is 252$ [I'm in BC]. If you're middle of nowhere like myself you will pay shipping. Am I missing something Stubble or is SAKO currently offering a 500$ mail in rebate...plus the free hat? :p

Gun Nutz and others offer great deals on used Sakos as well as Prophet River in Alberta for agreat price on a new one. I've been hunting for now 51 years and my original Sakos are in my kids hands and I imagine my new ones will wind up with them as well. They last a life time. Have 5 kids who all hunt and shoot. :D

What does one pay for a Finnlite at Prophet River? I checked the site and saw walnut 85's for 1650$. I have heard great things about Clay and his service.

I have never paid $1800 for any Sako including my Varmint Laminate stainless model, which costs more than a Finnlight, and I live in Alberta so I only pay the GST.

I Bias to the AV myself ;)

Mmmm, finnlights...

I bought the 75 finnlight in .308 about 4 years ago, then bought the olive EDGE 2 years ago. It goes 7lbs even, with the VX3 2.5-8. The 85 Finnlight .30-06 I bought used on here and it already had the EDGE on it. It goes 7lbs 2oz scoped, also with a VX3 2.5-8. The top one is my 85 SS .260, also with an EDGE, and goes 7lbs 10oz, with the VX3 3.5-10.

All 3 will shoot under an inch, consistently, and usually under 2" at 300yds.

For me my Finnlight is well worth the extra $$$ but I do appreciate fine quality and craftsmanship. Its light, well balanced, points well and very accurate. As for the stock... its not a $700 aftermarket but I like it, its reasonably stiff and it feels good for a factory stock. If you pay attention to detail and enjoy finer stuff, buy it you will enjoy it.
