I took apart the magazine from my Sako 85 Finnlight in 7mm-08. I cleaned it out and put it together. No matter which what I put the spring back in, I have problems. The best result I can get right now is having all 5 rounds in the magazine, but I have to have the bolt open first. The way it should work obviously is being able to have 5 rounds in the mag, with the bolt closed. I can do this now, however, the bolt will not come back and dent the case if forced.

Anyone have any clue how I can remedy this?

are you referring to the follower, because that can only go in one way. There are a total of 3 peices. The mag housing, spring and follower. The spring is the only thing that can be put in a different way

Wife has one in .243.

I am pretty sure ( not positive and will check later on ) to get five rounds in the gun you need one in the chamber. 4 + 1. The mag will hold five but not with the bolt closed unless you really force the mag in causing the issue you describe.

It is most definitely a 5 round magazine. Never had an issue before I took it apart. .243, 7mm-08, and .308 all use the same magazine size, "A", and should all hold 5.

Here is the spec sheet, in

West 250, if you have the heart to, could you pop yours out and take a pic? Not to impose, as you may be euchered like I am.

Thanks

Here's a couple of pics of mine (it's a little scuzzy cause it's been sitting in my pack all loaded up and ready to go). I had a peek underneath the follower and it appears that the spring slides into a slot on top. Not sure what happens at the bottom, but it may be that you've missed the slot somehow when assembling and it's impeding the proper function of it.

Ensure that the magazine goes back together like it shows on page 49 of the manual. It may be that you have the spring leaf upside down or something too...

I just took one apart. Its a 75, but can't be much difference. I don't see how it could go back together any way but correct. The spring is a mirror image of itself, so even if upside down, would still function the same. However, on the bottom of the mag housing, there is a step-down, and I'm wondering if it is hung up on the lip of said step...

Thanks for the pic.

The 85 mag is a little different. The to ends of the spring are different lengths and the botom of the mag housing in symmetrical.

so here is what I have below. This is the most successful setup. The spring ins in the direction as per the manual. If I flip the spring around, I can't even get the 5th round sitting in the mage.

This is what happens when I put the mage in before opening the action

Thanks for the help.

Nevermind, I got it.

Blarmon, I look at your pic. The short part of the mag feeds into the follower, however you don't insert the spring staright in through the back. You have to insert it about mid way, in between the retaining clips.

Thanks. A picture is worth a thousand words.
