Hi Nutters;

So I've become victim of the infamous Sako 85 ejection issue. My 30-06 Black Bear ejects the cartridge straight up, clanging into the scope. Now I know why I got such a good deal on it. :runaway:

I need to find:

> An extractor spring, either Sako or other brand that will fit.
> I'd purchase an extrator kit if someone in Canada has one
> If someone knows the size / guage of the spring please let me know, then I can find it other places than the firearms world.

Note: The usual suspects (Brownells, MGW, etc are either out of stock or don't ship to Canada). And Stoeger (Sako) Canada are a disaster dealing with. So I'm hoping someone, somewhere in Canada can help me!

Thanks for any help you can give!

Are you using Sako Rings and bases??
Have you tried calling Reliable on Fraser St. in Vancouver ?
They are a site sponsor and carry Sako firearms and likely have a better repertoire in dealing with a Wholesale/Supplier.

The cartridge ejects straight up. Rings or bases don't matter. Its an extractor issue. Thanks for mentioning reliable, I'll check it out! Cheers

How did you make out with your ejection issue? I have the same problem with a model 85. The clearance between the extractor and the shell base is massive. Was that your issue? If so, did the spring fix it, or did you need to alter the length of the extractor itself?

yes please update.. I am in the same boat , just bought a brand new sako 85 finnlite 3006 from cabelas . it too Ejects spent cases strait up into the scope and right back down onto the feed rails. VERY disappointed with my Sako after spending this much money. :(

So, after sourcing a couple different extractors and springs, and farting around with it, trying to find a solution, I came across a ridiculous fix....Which involved beating the extractor claw with a hammer to tighten its grip on the rim of the cartridge.

The basic premise is that Sako has used a '1 size fits all' approach to their extractors despite the variances in rim thickness between cartridges. Hence, thinner the rims are (as on a 30-06 compared to others) , the less tightly they are gripped and are hence released too easily during the extraction process. So the 'grip' of the extractor claw is relieved prematurely, and the case is pushed straight up instead of being gripped and tossed to the right.

The article I discovered is here: Use at own risk! It did work for me - https://sakocollectors.com/forum/threads/a-fix-for-the-sako-75-85-ejection-issue.13742/

I found a skilled machinist who built me a couple of extractor claws with closer clearance between claw and rims. It was cheap, easy, and a perfect solution. Now my M85 Bavarian 7x64 and my M85 Kodiak .375 work perfectly.

Sounds like a business opportunity.
