Sako 85 or Weatherby Mark V

I need hunting rifle for deer and elk. I am thinking about getting 30-06 and I have a VERY good scope for it already. The scope is more expensive then either of these guns.

Just want to know from people who have used these guns which one is more accurate?
 
sako is likely more accurate, but it doesn't really impress me much. The wby's much much nicer overall, but for that kinda money, I'd probably be looking for a Kimber, or maybe even a dakota
 
I'd go with the Sako 85 in the stainless and laminated stock version. A friend has one and it's a very nice handling,functioning and very accurate rifle. I'd consider getting one myself if I could get rid of all the stuff I have for sale...:)
 
I would say Sako 75. The 85 has a bunch of wacky features which you may or may not like. I was shopping for an 85 but couldnt get the gun in 300 win mag. Only fat cartidges like 300 wsm.
 
I'd go Sako, the 30-06 is a great choice. I've never seen or used a 85, but the 75's are great. Ditto on the Kimber.
I'd probably use the 165 TSX or a 165 Accubond, with RL19. If you want to use a 'plain' bullet, I have found the 180 Hornady Interlock at 2800 does very well.
 
I'd give the accuracy edge to Sako although both are suitably accurate for hunting purposes. I prefer the 75 and agree with Mighty Peace about the stock design of the 85.

The only knock on the Sako is that they are heavy rifles. My .270 Model 75 fully kitted out is over 9lbs but as I recall the MarkIV is no lightweight either. Both comanies have lighter weight options however.
 
Hey, compare the 75 and 85 side by side and the 85 is in a higher class. The fine detail to craftsmanship belongs to the 85. enough said. I should know, I own both.
 
My vote goes to the Sako 85 30-06, but I am bias, I have one ;)

I like the newer Sako 85 stock design personally. I can't see how they cheaped out on it, the gun was well made, functions beautifully.
 
The 85 Sako gets my vote too. I don't like the gloss finish of the WBY, and the styling looks overdone.

I ordered an 85 in stainless hunter in 300Win but am still waiting 9-10 months so far.......Hmmmm
 
I'm in the sako camp as well I've never been too impressed with most weatherby rifles but everyone likes something different . Ive always had very good experiences with the sakos I've owned just my 0.2
 
After handling an 85, there's no way I'd buy one. The stock's significantly shorter than the 75's and also FAR less comfortable. If the price were in the range of the T3s I might still consider one, but at that price point, I want something that's going to actually fit me.
