Sako 85 or Weatherby Mark V

Having owned two mark V weatherby rifles and having shot a friends model 75 Sako, the Sako is better finished and is a much better value for the price in my opinion.

After handling an 85, there's no way I'd buy one. The stock's significantly shorter than the 75's and also FAR less comfortable. If the price were in the range of the T3s I might still consider one, but at that price point, I want something that's going to actually fit me.

Well that sounds like a personal problem....:D

I am not overly crazy about the quality of the Sako 85 stock, but I do like the design/shape more than the 75's. I will be changing it out to a McMillan in the new year.

The sako 85 looks fine...
Do people just not like the stock shape or whatnot?
I'd give my 700 LSS Mountain 30-06 towards a Sako 85

If you like the look and feel of a Tikka, you'll like the look and feel of the 85. I don't END Quote.

When I held both the T-3 and the Sako 85, I changed my mind from wanting a T-3 and then I needed the Sako 85. I just could not justify going halfway.
BTW the next new rifle will be a Blaser 93 Check them out!

I tried both 75 and 85...and Weatherby and went with the Sako 85 in synthetic stock and stainless steel barrel in .338 .I loved the feel of the stock and how it felt and gripped and swung so naturally. for "wetcoast hunting " it will be ace..I ran S/S opticlock bases and rings and leupold vari x 111 3.5-10...and had Corlanes put the new 3 piece..yes 3 piece muzzle brake on it..1 decibal increase in noise..there in my mind is nothing wrong with the Sako 85 stock...comfortable..weatherproof and the fit is amazing..so thats why I dropped the $1600 for the rifle...well worth it and great value..

oh ya..my wife bought it for me for valentines:bigHug:

Your wife sure knows her rifles;). Lucky man. Congrats and have fun shooting it. The VXIII makes a great companion on your 85.

I start this thread long time ago and here my update:

I bought Sako 85 in 300WM and put a nice Leupold VX-7 4.5-14x50 on it before the hutning season. The setup costs me $3800  I did lot of shooting at the range and later dropped the my first Canadain deer at 358 yards:dancingbanana:

I am very pleased with my setup and thanks to all whole post here and gave good advices.
