for example the new J Rigby production is actually cheaper and a better rifle IMHO.
We have brought in a Safari in 416 Rigby for a customer. Retail $13,000
They are nice looking rifles, but for example the new J Rigby production is actually cheaper and a better rifle IMHO. Even Blaser in a big game caliber is cheaper if you don't heavilly customize it. Of course the CZ550s are significantly cheaper, and although not as nicely finished they seem to work OK and are very popular.
If you like Sako rifles and want a larger chambering then you can also look at the Brown Bear XL - it is available in .450 Rigby and .500 Jeffery and they are listed for $3000-$3500.
I was looking through the Stoeger catalogue, saw they offered that and the Brown Bear in 375H&H, but the Safari looked nicer with the quarter rib and all. Still, 3K is a lot better than 13.
To include a true everyman's safari rifle into the Sako 85 product family Sako is introducing the Brown Bear in action size XL. This widens the caliber selection of the Bear Series to include 416 Rigby, 450 Rigby and 500 Jeffery. The laminate stock has been redesigned to accommodate larger calibers and the barrel profile has been redefined for the new calibers.
Brown laminated hardwood, straight classic stock, black action and 540 mm semi heavy barrel (21,1/4"). Exellent balance for good pointability.
