sako 85 stainless laminate

Now that I would like to see. Riding a moped with a 270 strapped to your back. You know they would pay big bucks for that picture and maybe enough for you to buy that Sako

You pay for the Sako 85,and supply the moped and the 270 and you have a deal.:D
But I will be wearing the helmet of my choice, after all,it is the law..:D

Never owned a 85, enjoyed the hell out of a few at some shoots but before I sound like I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night I will say I have a Kodiak on the way.

Great scope, but it looks totally out of place on a sporting rifle.I have the NXS 3.5X15X50 myself, but it is on my 700-5R,which I won't be carrying around much.

A long action Sako laminate will weigh 8 lbs bare so its really no lightweight either. The balance is really good so you wouldn't notice it when shouldered, unlike your heavy barrel 8 lb+ 700 R5 gun. Its still going to be on the heavy side for a long days hike though. Recoil is very light for a 7 mag, mostly due to the weight but also due to the stock design.

The 7 mag that I have is a really good shooter as are most sakos. Really long in the throat and magizine too. No limitations there. Shoots 162 gr bullets at max loads at 0.5". No pressure signs at over max due to the large throat and therefore chamber. I haven't tested it to see where it tops out but i'll get there.

The set trigger is neat, kinda gimmicky because I'm not used to it, but works really well. The trigger is easily adjustable w/o disassemebly and breaks clean. I'm not sure if the Stainless Laminate has the set trigger or if you're even interested in it.

The scope is a bit overkill not because of the magnification but more for the size/weight it adds. It helps in developing loads, and i'm going to see how far I can shoot this thing accurately. Then make a call on if the scope is too much.

Hope this helps. Good call on the 7 mag choice too.

Hunting close isnt cool, only the minority do it... the elite hunt at 500 yards and beyond with their magnums

I guess that I am in the minority then, since I have taken big game with my bow,all under 40 yards. And I have never even attempted a 500 yard or farther shot at a big game animal with any weapon.:D

I guess your hunting / stalking skills and game knowledge are not very good if you need to shoot past 500 yards all the time. Sounds like your only elite skill maybe in your shooting capabilites. The big part of the last statement is MAYBE
