I am considering taking an A1 hunter in 6ppc on trade in very good+ condition. The current owner has decided that he doesn't want to reload and the rifle comes with new RCBS dies. I am unfamiliar with the 6ppc's popularity (or lack of) and having a hard time putting a value on his rifle. Can someone help me out with what realistic resale value this rifle has?

If you go to a benchrest match (for 100 and 200 yards) you will see every guy who is competitive uses 6PPC now. I have seen groups of .110 (measured outside to outside) at 200 yards. Mind you that was with a competition rifle in the right hands, but it also says something about the cartridge.

$1100 on up to arounfd $1500, is going rate for one of these rare birds, good luck, dale z!

Agreed on the price. I had one in 22PPC 15 years ago. With a little Balvar 2-8 compact that rifle would average (yes, AVERAGE) under 3/8" for 3 shots at 100 yards. Signifcantly more accurate than a VSSF Swift with Leupold 6.5-20 I had at the same time.

That rifle will not be a mistake.

I have a very rare 6 PPC A1 hunter. Its the lighter repeater version though. Bought it years ago to make into a coyote rifle. Still sitting new in the box but will get it out eventually when I have time. Lovely little rifle, for sure!

Sako 6PPC

It depends on what you had in mind with this rifle?? If you want to compete in short range matches 100-200 mtrs against other 6PPCS then you'd be advised to build a rifle for this type of match, custom action, barrel, trigger & stock. A lot more money, but these rifles shoot into one ragged hole.
If just some of the local shoots and what not, then YES the Sako will be competive.
