Seems the recipe is favoured in my Sako A1 .222Rem.
I was using the 55gr Zmax for ages. Shot some deers but mostly spotlighting foxes.
Not ideal trajectory wise ....
Everyone told me 50 gr is for the 222.... They are much more accurate.

So I got some Speer SP 50gr....
Some 2207 charges and looks like I might of Lucked out here.

More testing in coming weeks...

That's a 3 Shot group fellas 🔥🔥

I do 3 shot groups and so far no game animal got away. Just yesterday, I was shooting my Merkel k5 30-06, with a new bullet amd new loads, I loaded 3 of each loads in one grain increment, went to the range and the first 2 loads and the last one were like 1.5-2” group with 2 close together and one flyer… the velocity was a bit spread out too. the 3rd load I shot all 3 were together in about 3/4”, the velocity was tighter, and the velocity was were I wanted it. So I decided it was the one I was gonna work with. A plus is the point of impact is really close to the other load I use with 168gn ABLR, so that is also good! Most of my hunting is inside 125m some times in the 200 and so far never past 300 so even 2” groups would do the job in reality!
That said I totally agree that string of 10 shot groups are better than 5 shot groups that are better than 3 shot groups but I ain’t made out of money and up here components are less and less available(our only gun store in the territory is dropping reloading components) so I do with 3 shot groups and so does John Barsness for his hunting rifles. If I was shooting competition I would certainly do something different.

When I handload and find the accurate development, it must prove itself, time and time over. I recently started a thread regarding load development on the 240 Wby. and 7mm Rem. Mag. accompainied with targets which showed accurate consistency. In the past, the same with my 270 Winchester. Best of luck!

Looks great!
I'd fire one more three shot group and if it is anywhere near as close, go hunting- it's a hunting gun after all, not a match rifle!

I think not only is it a quality rifle it is a pretty accurate one too.

Very Nice Shooting and a fine choice in a European brand as well !!
That really means nothing. Shoot at least ten 5 shot groups and have another look.
Why not just adjust for windage and elevation or another three rounds down range and leave well enough alone.
It is a hunting rifle and Whelanlad is a pretty crack shot as it is.

As mentioned earlier , it is a Hunting rifle and has potential for some meat on the table or hides on the fence post .
Chasing bugholes makes one go buggy:oops:

In my opinion this gun and load choice are of slightly low accuracy and high precision. (scope adjustment)

A five shot grouping might tell otherwise, but right now the elevation and windage would prove otherwise .

Whelenlad, where are you on this in the load development and accuracy improvement?

Tight Groups and Great Hunting !

Well said and explained
I agree with DGY, it also comes down to cost at the end of the day too!

So far I haven't done too much more, I actually loaded 30X rounds for my young fella to go thin out a Few Skippys over the back paddocks (on permit-crop protection)

I will re test the accuracy in coming weeks as we will be shooting the 6x47 a fair bit , it an the .222 will be out together..
To get Some chrono results aswell.

4 clicks to the Right.
(I didn't disclose but I was actually aiming for the Lower O , so elevation is quite good but it was out to the Left a inch or so 😎😎 )

For a while I thought the barrel might of been a bit Cooked (with 55gr) but it really hasn't had THAT many rounds down it an if it can hold any similar group each shot , it indicates it's good to go for a while longer yet 🙏🔥

rightio you got me keen, i had 3 rounds begging to be shot.
was a bit of wind to the left. i adjusted the 4 clicks prior to shooting but coincidently i think the wind has sat them back out that inch - wont adjust further until a calm day...
im not used to these light projectiles / smaller cals an shooting in wind or even minor wind..... i noticed this with the 250 the other week in the field in a strong wind..

anyway- off the bonnet today , so less than ideal bench rest- it shot a 1/2 inch 3 shot with the same ingredients.

happy days-
an note it was not a test to see if i could put al 3 in one hole- it was just to make sure the load wasnt 'no good'.

ill see if i can find a fox with it tonight

Yeah mate no good, you really need to shoot 10 5 shot groups so 50 rounds to be sure anything less and you are just guessing 🫣😎
Oh and a piece of cardboard as a target wtf!! 😬

I thought we were talking about accuracy or at least potential accuracy, not just good enough to kill stuff. Sorry, carry on.
"just good enough to kill stuff" is a bit of a misnomer, because as you know, once you get into the field and out of " range conditions" things change, as well as the accuracy parameters.
Shooter ability trumps everything then as far as knowing where to put a bullet, and how to to shoot with improvised rests or offhand.
This is not range rifle for plinking or matches, it is a hunting rifle, and that is why I made my original statement.
The best target accuracy or precision potentially made come from a load that will not feed from the magazine and that is important in a mag fed rifle.

Hunted and killed many many moose, elk, deer, bear, etc. for many many years. Finished with that and now do the accuracy, varmint target thing, so I am well aware of what you speak. Yes there is no real comparison between hunting conditions and killing stuff and shooting a decent group on a piece of paper. More fun for me to shoot a gopher at 400 than a moose at 100, and before anyone starts I don`t hunt for food, don`t want to and don`t need to.

Geez, I now know someone who is my clone; I'm on the same page. I as well, killed hundreds of big game and never hunted for food, only to enjoy the art of hunting and nature. Thank-you for mentioning "killing" instead of that euphemism word of "harvesting."
