Got an opportunity to take the new rifle to the range today. I bought some Remington brass and some dies and skipped factory loads altogether. I loaded up 10 rounds using components I had on hand, some 165 grain Hornady Accubonds. Those bullets shoot well in my 300WM, so I figured I'd try them in my short mag. I loaded up 65 grains of H4831SC with those bullets. After a bit of diddling around with getting it where I wanted at 100 yards I had 4 rounds left. My 4 round group is just a little over an inch. I was hoping for better, and can work my way up to 69.5 grains according to the reloading data on the Hogden site in its listing for 168 grain bullets. Perhaps it will shoot better with more powder behind it. If not, I'll see if I can get some 180 grain bullets and continue with H4831SC on those. I'll be happy if I can get something in around the 3/4" five shot group at 100 yards. That should be plenty accurate for hunting confidence.
