Hello all. I bought a Sako A7 in 30-06 a few years back. It's a good shooter and I really like the rifle, but I do have one serious issue with it though. It is extremely difficult to put the magazine into the rifle. It just doesn't "slide into place" like most others, and it requires a lot of finesse to get it installed. Another issue is that cartridges will randomly just pop out of the magazine, even when the mag is just sitting untouched on a shelf or table. It is almost impossible to install the mag into the rifle without at least one of the cartridges popping out. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I look forward to hearing from anyone who can offer some advice.

I have the second issue you describe as well. Same rifle / caliber. Thanks for posting - I've been putting off dealing with the issue for awhile.

I've had an A7 roughtech pro 308 for only a year now and haven't had any cartridges pop out on me yet. I'll admit that the mag has to be in a perfect position to insert, doesn't load as slick as x-bolt mags, but it's my first SAKO so figured that's just how they are. Doesn't concern me at all. But if shells started to pop out when loading a mag that would concern me.

I have a 30-06 and I do not have these problems. I’d try calling the warranty centre.

To remove the magazine you need to push up on the mag and hit the mag release. I really like the top load and removable mag feature. I hate the $200 price tag for a magazine, absolutely ridiculous if you ask me which is why its the only rifle I have with only 1 magazine.

I have one mag for my A7 roughtech in 7mag that pukes cartridges with the slightest of bumps. Thought it was a spring tension issue so I left the mag loaded in my safe, next day it had puked them all out just sitting there. Second mag doesn't have any issues.
A7 mag puking is a super common issue. That being said, neither of my mags are hard to insert.

I have an A7 in 270, it is a couple of years old now, I have two magazines and one of them started popping shells out the top this fall, I very carefully squeezed the steel lips of the magazine together, no problems since. I used to load the magazines by just pushing the cartridge down above the lips spreading them a little every time I loaded. I now load by pushing the shells from the opening back without spreading the steel lips.

Mine did that if I loaded it from the top a lot, same treatment and change in loading style as above. Kind of ruins the top load into the magazine thing.

Thank you very much for all your input. Greatly appreciated. I will try bending in the tabs slightly to see if that helps. I will also contact Sako directly to see if they can do anything to rectify the issue.

Bump - and MD - what did you use to squeeze the lips together?

I had one and quickly got rid of it. Along with magazine issues (the metal lips will separate from the magazine so be careful) the rifle experienced pressure issues too. Brand new and when fired I had one heck of time opening the bolt. Dealing with Stoeger Canada is a memory I chose not to revisit:bangHead:
The magazines seem to be a mix bag of Tikka with an effort to make it more Sako like. Big fail IMHO.
No issues at all with the several Sako's I have had and currently own.

Ok, my rant is over. Perhaps a new magazine will work better and I hope you get this figured out. Again, be careful messing with the feed lips.

cheers,

I had a Sako A7 in 308. Got same problem---cartridges popping out. Its easy to fix. Disassemble the magazine, use a plier or rubber hamer to bend the metal lip a little more. Than problem solved. After done this, I shot it more than 100 rounds, no issue.

My nephew has an A7 in 270WSM and has had the same issues with the magazine for past 4+ years. He is on his 4th or 5th from Stoeger Canada. He is to the point where he told Stoeger he would take a RTP or an m85 and pay the difference and return his A7ss. He loves the caliber and had used my Tikka T3 LS 270WSM rifle till he bought his Sako A7ss.
