Sako A7 or Browning Xbolt

Ok Guys and gals what is your opinion on both of these rifles? If purchasing a new rifle with only these two to pick from which would you pick?

tough choice to make! I couldn't decide, so I have both, and love both of them. The A7 goes out on rainy/blustery days. And the X-bolt goes out on most, but not all, sunny days. I think you just might end up having to get both as well! Toss a coin to see which one comes first.
 
I have the X-bolt Stalker in .308 22" floating barrel, browning feather trigger, acu grip synthetic stalk... the gun is awesome... you would not be disappointed. I shoot 180Gr federal premium out of the thing, and it feels like I'm shooting an m-14 or sks, that weighs only 6.5lbs.
 
I shouldered both repeatedly to see which one felt better and for me the Xbolt was the winner. It's a great rifle and the dura touch finish is awesome. Further the recoil pad is excellent. Just see what feels best for you! Both are great but one will stick out.
 
I have an x-bolt and I love it!
The Duratouch coating is great, and recoil is minimal for a fairly compact, handy rifle (30-06)

I've never used a Sako, but they are well regarded rifles.
If in doubt, pick what feels most comfortable, usually a good way to go.
 
my dad recently bought the x-bolt with the stainless composite stock. I didn't like the feel of the wood stock but the synthetic is really nice. perfect fit.

I love the bolt and overall feel for the sako, but I dispise where the safety is. if there was no intention to hunt with it the, sako would be great but I doubt I will ever own a sako rifle because of the safety location.
 
If a magnum calibre go with the X bolt, the recoil pad is fabulous, if lesser calibre get what you can for what you want to pay
 
I can vouch for the X-bolt. I have a stainless stalker in .308 and it is an ideal 'Wet Coast' hunting rifle. It is accurate, light and comfortable to carry all day and I am happy to have a stainless rifle on the island. I would love to try a Sako 85 but when I handle the two side by side the X-bolt looks pretty good. I'm also surprised with the details on the X-bolt - trigger is excellent and the rifle is factory bedded.
 
I am going through a similar dilemma however also including the tikka t3, I went to the shop yesterday and shouldered all of them for about 20 minutes. Ill share my thoughts.

The sako by far had the best, smoothest action.

The xbolts stock is the same material, but is thinner and feels cheaper than the sako

The tikka stock was a different cheaper material than both of them and was by far the worst.

The mag on the A7 really wasnt that bad, i heard a lot of people say it sucked but it was strong, and fit was perfect!

The browning and the sako both came up to the shoulder well, this is more personal, but for me I think the a7 wins this race too, not by much, it just seemed to fit better, put my face in perfect position.

overall, I decided on the A7 and will be buying one in a week or two.
 
I prefer the X-bolt. I have a 300wm white Gold. Good trigger, nice recoil pad and magazine. The fit and finish is excellent wood and stainless barrel. Shoot excellent groups.

This is what I take when hunting bears in the rainy days on Vancouver Island.
 
I bought an A7 and then bought two X-Bolts. The A7 is now gone. No big issues with either models. The Browning was just a better fit.

There have been a lot of threads on this if you can find them with the search function.
 
I have owned Brownings, Remington 700's, Winchesters, Sako's, and Sauers.
Best all round rifle for accuracy and workmanship are Sako's and Sauers.
You get Deadly Accuracy and "Smooth as butter" actions in the Sako's and Sauers!
But of course you get what you pay for!
 
Both are great,

A7 fit me better (raised cheek piece)
X-bolt has a better recoil lug setup and comes factory bedded

other than that, tit for tat
 
It's always amusing when someone revives a year old thread.
I see that the OP is currently selling rings and bases for an Xbolt and is looking to buy an A7 on the EE.
I think his mind is made up.
