I don't mind the 75, not a big fan of the 85 stocks or the A7.

I agree,...can't understand the 85 no matter how hard I try,...what the he11 was wrong with the 75??????...and that childproof mag latch is so much baloney.....luckily it's easily fixed....

martin,...you need to grab that 75 from P&D and save me the $$$:D

Well, I took home the M70 E W earlier today..To anybody else who owns one of these in .30-06...how many lands do you have for your rifling? My bore is showing me 4..Do all the .30-06 in this model come with only 4 lands in the rifling..Normally all of my previous rifles (in other makes) have had at least 5, normally 6..

Would someone else on here with one, if you wouldn't mind, check to see how many lands your '06 is showing.

Just curious..

Thanks

How many isn't as important as rate of twist, usually 1 in 10 inches I think.

Here's a pic of mine anyway..:D..For anyone who may consider one in the future...Fit and finish is just great, balance feels right, waiting to get a scope and rings/mounts for it..Hoping its gonna be a real shooter!!..Sadly , my fiance wanted to hold it as soon as I got it home, And in the process of "shouldering" the rifle, she gave it a rub right across the pistol grip area on the left side (from back of top tang straight down to behind trigger guard.. scraped it off the safe door..f:P:.Anyway...at least its not walnut..That coulda been a little bit of a problem:D

If Sako had of used the opportunity with the A7 to have made a gun slightly different then what they currently had (i.e. a staggered box magazine with a floorplate), I would have thought that the A7 made total sense. With the rifle being "price pointed" in between the T3 and the 85, it is more of the same, and will probably not be around for long.
From what I've heard, and seen, the new Winchester mod70 appears to be a good gun, that will be around for a while, with both aftermarket, and plenty of factory parts available. (I really wish they haden't of messed with the origonal trigger though!)

exactly...I have a bunch of old Model 70's and the simple trigger is easily reworked to 3#'s or less...with a bit of careful stoning...mine are all between 2-1/2 and 2-3/4 lbs.

The new FN MOA trigger I had was crisp but it would not go below 3-1/4#'s..

There was nothing wrong with the old M70 trigger,..it worked for 70 years...

I've read different reviews regarding the "MOA" M70 trigger. Some consider it an improvement, others not.

I'm no M70 aficionado, my knowledge of it thus far comes from reading. I just purchased a new Featherlight for $795.00, however, and find the trigger delivers on its promise. I like it. If I truly didn't, and assuming the rifle proves to deliver good accuracy, I'd just drop an after market trigger in it. With a Timney installed the M 70 would still just top $1000.00. I don't think that would be an unwarranted investment for a rifle that satisfies the discerning shooter. If I really prized the rifle, but not the trigger, the price of a Jewel wouldn't scare me either. You'd still be under $1,200.00.

Again, I'm no aficionado, but Timney and Jewel are making M70 triggers so somebody must be putting em in. ;)

I'm a big M70 fan. I picked up a super grade 30-06 and it shot FIVE shots under an inche, not just three (more than once). That was with factory ammo by the way. I haven't had time to work up a load but hope to before the weather gets too warm. I love the rifle for the price, it really is a good deal especially if you like the safety which I do. The only two complaints I have about the gun are minor. I need to work in the safety because I know if walk up on a critter they will hear the safety go off. Also, I am old fashioned and the bullet proof stock has a satin finish and not a high gloss finish so I can't see the beautiful piece of walnut that it has as well. Oh well, it is just a reasonably priced hunting rifle.
