Hello this is my first post, I hope I have the correct category. This summer I purchased a Sako A7, 7mm RM, replacing an old Tikka I gave/sold to my brother-in-law.
I have a problem with the Sako, when the bolt is drawn back and the magazine is full (3 cartridges), additional cartridges get ejected out of the action. The problem occurs a little less than 50% of the time. The magazine spring would seem to be under too much compression. This is without loading one in the chamber.
Looking at the top of a loaded magazine you can see the feed lips are spreading apart and just barely keeping the third round in the clip. If I carry the loaded clip in a jacket pocket for any length of time (while quading) I'm sure to find at least two rounds ejected.
I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem, or does it sound like I've got a bad magazine? If it's a common problem is there a fix that can be easily made?
Now I've grown up always filling the magazine and hand loading one in the chamber, for this Sako 3 + 1. Is this a bad practice? After shooting the one in the chamber this gun will 99% of the time spit out two live rounds with the spent cartridge. Am I doing something wrong?
Any advice or comments would be appreciated.
