I'm in the market for a new rifle. Do you have any input on the Sako A7 Roughtech Pro versus the Remington 700 5-R Gen 2 versus the Savage 110 Predator?

Personally, I think the Sako is in a whole other league compared to a Rem 700 or Savage 110. If you've got budget for the Sako, that's what I'd go with.

Buy the Remington. Use the money saved for good optics.

Sako/Tika are nice but way overpriced.

I have 2 of them and they shoot no better than my 700s.

I’ve got a Sako A-7 Roughtek Range in 6.5 Creedmoor. It’s s hammer. Very accurate. Action is slick and smooth, it has a detachable box mag, and a fluted barrel. BUT, it’s not stainless. If I did it over again, I’d buy the Tikka Varmint as the accuracy would be equal, the action just as nice, and I’d have my stainless.

Thanks for the input. Is there any particular reason you would go with the Tikka instead of the A7 Roughtech Pro to get the stainless barrel?

I believe the roughtech pro has a Sporter style stock where as the Tikka and the other options you were looking at have target/Varmint style stocks.

I have one of the new Savage 110 tactical's with accustock. It's pretty similar to the Predator you're looking at. I love this gun! Less than $1k, customizable fit, works flawlessly, and it is super accurate.

8.7lbs for the predator in 6.5CM compared to 7.5lbs for the Sako and 8.5lbs for the Remington makes the Savage the heaviest. Not sure how much the weight bothers you. Also not sure how much you care about stainless. Conditions you want to use the rifle in may sway your decision.

The Sako is undoubtedly a fantastic firearm. If budget were no object that would be my choice out of the three. But considering budget constraints, if you can get the Savage and have an extra wad of cash left over to put towards glass, that'd be my move.

Aren't those the Sako's with major ejection problems?

I believe it’s caliber and scope height related. My 6.5 is fine, but know a guy that has a 300wsm that needs high scope rings for the brass to eject. I believe the 85s might suffer the same problem.

I have experience with both savage and the sako. Both shoot well, but that where it ends. The sako is much nicer.

The roughtech stock is an aluminum chassis type with a normal looking stock. It runs the length of the stock so it's very strong, LOP is adjustable. Short bolt lift, nice smooth action. The mag can be loaded without removing it. Can get in stainless as well. Mines in 308.

Nothing wrong with the Savage, price wise hard to beat. Just not as nice.

Good luck

That Savage 110 Tactical seems like a really good deal. Do you know if you can use a standard Savage magazine in the magwell instead of the Magpul magazine?

Sako/Tikka. I have long been a fan of Savage for budget guns with good accuracy but the last few years I see them priced far too high (except for the Axis, which I would not willingly buy- that stock would have to be replaced, eliminating the budget advantage). For a couple hundred dollars more for the Tikka, you get a much better build quality and resale if you choose to do so.

Food for thought: IMO the very best bang-for-your-buck option for a deadly accurate rifle on a budget is a Weatherby Vanguard S2 in any caliber. Price on par or less than any Savage excluding the Axis line, and way slicker action. My .243 puts 95-grain Fusions into a dime at 100 yards; my Vanguard in .300WM is an easy inch with 180-gr. Barnes VOR-Tx. I haven't even begun playing with handloads for either.
