Hey guys,

anyone has an A7 in Roughtech Pro or Range version? I'm wondering how stock is done on them. Sako says there is an aluminum insert through all the stock, but I can't find any pictures of the bed or inside the stock. Is it metal to metal with the action or you need to bed it?

I understand original plastic stock on A7 was total junk, but the action and barrel is decent. If for the roughtech the action sits on the aluminum base it could be a much more reasonable setup I guess.

Could you enlighten me please?

All aluminum where the action sits in the stock. It a aluminum skeleton that the stock is built around.
If you go to Sako website and download pdf copy of the rifle there is a picture, can Google roughtech images as well and it shows up

No need for bedding, mine will do 5 shot sub moa groups just as advertised.

Can use Browning A bolt scope bases as well, same. More options when looking.

Ok thanks for the info.

Do you have any issues with the magazine? Some say the magazine ejects rounds on itself.

No issues, happened with early models of the A7. The problem was fixed from what I've researched.

No issues at all with the rifle, accurate, decent adjustable trigger. Bolt cycles nice. Mines 308.

And if you want to top load the magazine while it is in the rifle, does it work just like a regular double stack - put and push round down or there is a trick to it?

I kinda don't get how the single stack can do top loading, but they say on the website you can.

Top load single shot, only.

The roughtech stock is a Bell and Carlson. Google them, there's lots of images.

The mag can be loaded from top. It's a polymer mag with steel lips. You can push a cartridge straight down past the steel lips. I haven't tried it in the rifle but I don't see it making a difference .

I can't find any info that B&C makes the stock for the roughtech. All Sako advertising makes it sound like it's their design. They seem to have a different way of the aluminum installed in the stock compared to B&C.

Goto the Sako website and click on the Roughtech Pro PDF document. Shows great pictures of the stock.

I too remember hearing the RTP stock was made by B & C when it was first released. They are a nice rifle. A hunting buddy bought one 2 seasons ago....loves it. Got it for a good price. Quite a bit less than a Sako m85ss.

No issues with his magazine in the RTP. My nephew had some issues with his Sako A7ss but Stoeger replaced it at no cost...no issues now.
