Hey Guys, I got a great deal on a sako a7 rough tech pro in 300wsm . I haven’t fired it yet but I am wondering what is some factory ammo that is accurate out of these rifles ? I know all guns are different but just wondering if there’s a particular cartridge that works well. It will mainly be used for moose , bear and caribou so I would prefer something in the 180 gr range maybe 168.

The A7 is a great rifle. Factory ammo in 300 wsm was hard to find a while back. Not sure if it’s improved lately. I think you’ll have to shoot what you can get and see how it performs.

I think you have it figured out in your post, you will have to try and see.

But if my A7 experience is any indication it should all work pretty well

Rifle is great, very accurate and well made( I have a 7mm).It is different than the regular A7 which has different stock/bedding and weighs bit more.Problem is getting 300WSM ammo right now is a big pain.

The fact the A7's don't come up for re-sale often tells me those that have them don't want to part with them.

NAA.

I have the same gun in 300wsm and love it. However, I can't recommend a factory load, as I have only shot hand loads. If it's anything like my Tikka was, any decent factory load shoots acceptably, and probably even better than that. It's a shame factory ammo is so scarce now. I'd just see what's on the shelf, and do some reading and see what the reviews are like.

I have an a7 rough tech pro in 300wm. Was having nothing but issues with accuracy shooting 205gr eldx. Went down to a 180gr Barnes and still had issues. Then I met an a7 enthusiast and he told me the factory settings for the action bolts are too high. Book says 60 inch pounds and I went down to 45-50 and I'm now shooting 1inch groups at 200 yards. Couldn't be happier now. The enthusiast also told me the twist rates are a bit off on these guns and that a slightly lighter bullet is better than going heavy.

My A7 roughtech pro is in 308. Shoots federal trophy coppers extremely well. Better groups than I ever got with the x-bolt 308 I had before it.

Bit of a thread necro here. I'm finding a lot of 150gr Extreme Point ammo on the shelves from Winchester's Deer Season XP lineup. I don't own a 300WSM currently but also don't recall them being very picky about ammo in the usual 150-180gr range.

The Sako A7 is a nice rifle. I imagine it'll be as good as anything out there outside of custom or high end rifles.
