Has anybody gotten and shot the new Sako A7 lately? What do you think about it? Accuracy, smoothness, overall feel and felt recoil in .270Win or .308? Thnking of trading in my Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in .270Win caliber for it.

I would think twice before getting one, is a Sako 75 boltface, with tikka T3 recoil lug style. it a cheap way of making a High price Sako. I would keep you Win70.

And now from someone who has actually used it...

I have about 180 rounds through my Sako A7 .308 (blued) and have been satisfied with the purchase. It's coupled with a Bushnell 2.5-16 x 42 Elite 6500Tactical (great scope by the way).

Accuracy- it easily meets and on occasion when I do my part (and ease up on the coffee), exceeds what Sako claims, 5 shot M.O.A. No complaints in that department, but I've been using match ammo.

Smoothness- slick would describe it, the round seems to strip and slide right in so much that the resistance barely changes.

Recoil- after the first time out I picked up a limbsaver (#10011, almost perfect fit) to stop my wife from laughing at my bruised shoulder (I'm 6' 200lbs). It is a very light rifle so the kick is pretty good and the supplied hard rubber tire type buttpad didn't do much. Not much mass in the stock to absorb recoil.

Quality- Metal, excellent fit and finish.

Cons- I've gotten used to the stock and for some, the stock seems thin and hollow as you tap the butt and was a little worried at first, but it works just fine. The magazine is plastic (sorry, composite... sounds stronger...) with steel feed lips, but is durable- but expensive.

What would I change- more beef to the stock, but then it will miss it's intended audience. Its a great, lite rifle, if that's what you're looking for.

Never fired the Win. 70 so I can't compare.

Hope this helps.

Ah my friend you assume I have not shot one :). You will not get any complaints from me in the accuracy department in regards to an A7, I'm just a vintage biggot as my sig line says.

An A7 could shoot the pants off my old ones, but I'd still grab my old AV actions over it any day of the week.

But then again I am very biased to the old ones ;)

Glad you like your 308, but I'll keep this one.

Some people just have a little more class eh Wook :D .

If I were in the market for a 1000$ S/S hunting rig...I'd probably go to my shop and give them 1000$ and walk out with an A7...

My sincere apologies Wookie316, I had clicked reply and in the meantime you had posted as I composed my response. It was not intended for you at all. Just poor timing on my reply.

Lesson learned...
