I have a Sako in 375 mag that's an AV model. I bought this gun used some years ago. I was wondering if this is the fore runner to the Sako 75 or is this a completely different model? It's a fine rifle with just a plain wood stook. I would like to know more about the history of this model of rifle - thanks

The a series came out before the 75 models and they are very different. the 75 has three lugs equally dispersed over the bolt. 70 degree bolt lift, where the AV is more traditional.

If you are interested in selling it pm me.

Sako AV Mannlicher

I have an AV model in a 270 Mannlicher. I thought it was a Mk III action until I read this thread. Being in the trifocal phase of my life sucks without a magnifying glass.
My 270 is a great gun to shoot and I like it because it is compact 20" or 20 1/2" barrel. Sako's are the only guns I have bought or traded for that fit me without having to shorten the stock. I am vertically challenged and not many guns fit me the way they should.

I now have an AI in 223 with a laminated stock an AII in 308 and I thought the AV Mannlicher 270 model was an AIII. How can you tell the models like L-61 and other models are they all marked?
Or were the AI's, & AII's just a batch of guns that had the L- series omitted?

Do the AI, AII & AIII's have any other markings to identify them?

I traded my L-579, 243 for two 7X57 Mausers a few years ago and I kind of wish I would have kept it. But the Mausers were in VG to Exec condition so I can’t complain.

The L-579 was a nice gun, light, and accurate but I disliked the front sight. I have replaced my older Sako rings with newer less bulky ones and I still have them packed away. I do have one of the peep sights that came with a L-579, but it is a bit rough so I would like to get a better one down the road.

Sakos are fine guns and worth every penny in my opinion. But an opinion and $2.00 will just get a large Tim's and leave a tip.

Albayo

Albayo, The long action A series were made on both the A111 and AV action sizes. The AV have a 3.6 inch magazine box, mine is a 300 winmag and I can load OAl to 3.6 inches, i could rebarrel mine to 375 H&h if I chose.

I played with a 338 for a while that was an A111.

Thanks for the info martinbns and the offer to buy but I think I'll hang on to it even though I don't hunt with it anymore. It is a nice rifle and even though I may not ever make it to Africa I got a rifle that would be a good choice to take if I win the lotto.

Just a note on the A111-AV. They're both long actions, the A111 is the same but the series right before the AV. They look identicle.
