So a buddy of mine has offered to sell me his Sako AV in 7 Rem Mag.

I have found very little on the Sako AV, other than it was manufactured in the 80's.

He painted the whole thing desert camo:eek::confused::(, and it has a crappy Tasco scope on it.....

Can anybody tell me anything about the AV??? What price range are we looking at for a gun that is in VG condition, that is, if it did not have that crappy paint job. It has no nicks in the stock, the barrel is smooth (or the pits are filled in with paint:)) the action is smooth and the bore is immaculate.

Cheers and Merry Christmas

Offer your buddy $450.00, He'll be insulted. Then comeback with an offer of $550 (no more) & tell him the paint job looks like his four year old had at it. Great rifle too bad it's been painted because it may have been worth close to a grand if was in nice shape & not messed with. Make the deal without the scope, by the way...

I would go no more than $500, if you plan on stripping it down, re-finishing the wood and re-bluing...

I have a black mcmillan stock that fits that rifle. I had it for sale for $325, like new. The AV is a great rifle, acurate and far lighter than the model 75 that replaced it, easily adjustable trigger, too bad the idiot painted it.

I have a Sako Classic AV in 7mm Rem Mag. Beautiful rifle, and a total tack driver. It makes 1/2" groups at 100 yards with factory ammo every time.

Too bad buddy painted it. A gunsmith who builds custom stocks told me that the walnut on my rifle was nicer than most of the custom ones he builds.
