I recently bought an older 1969 Sako Finnbear in 7mm Rem.Mag.and was wondering if these are good rifles.I've heard they are but just wanted some of you guys opinions good/bad.It's almost mint and doesn't appear to have been used much and its got an absolutely beautiful stock. It didn't have a scope so i put on a Leupold VX-II 3 x 9 and it groups sub MOA.Any imput would be great. Thanks.

sounds like an L61R action....I had the same one from '66...same cartridge too. Great rifles..had one in 270 also. If it's mint I'd try and keep it that way....not that many on the used racks these days...not mint ones for sure. Does yours have the factory peep sight that fits on the rear dovetail?..does it have a rear sight on the barrel?

It didn't have any sights at all and i don't see where there's any marks that show it ever did.Yeah its a L61R action and a real nice rifle. This rifle didn't have any bases or rings either so i'am really wondering if it was ever used considering no sights.Bought it off an older lady whose husband passed away about 3 years ago.I heard she was going to turn it in because it wasn't registered so i rushed over and bought it.Good thing i showed up or they'd have scrapped it.

I have three older Sako's they are my alltime favourite rifles, currently I have a AV in 300 Win and a A1 in 223. don't mes with it, I put a mcmillan stock on my AV just so I would'nt mess up the nice wood.

When it comes to bases and rings, the very best are the Sako, all others including Leupold ,are in the poorly designed junk class. It takes a long tube scope, too. My 2.5x8 just fits.

The pre-72 are some of the finest rifles ever made, you have a hammer forged swedish steel barrel, the actions are some of the most true forged receivers ever seen. The down side, the Sako#4 trigger sear/cocking piece angle is too flat,it's unwise to lighten it much.A sharp rap with a wood block on the shroud can release.

You are very,very lucky.

Thanks guys and i did use the sako rings/bases on the Leupold.Sometimes a guy just gets a great buy and 4 years ago i bought a Browning BAR grade 2 Belguim made 1969 in .308 win. which is in mint condition also so my luck seems to be holding.
