SAKO Finnfire in 17M2

I compiled this test a few years ago. Interesting that the Sako was the most accurate rifle of the group (with Eley) and the Cooper was the only rifle that liked the Hornady ammo better than Eley.

I came across a used 10/22 conversion , as a first 17m2 then I bought a Marlin, then a Rugger 77/17, then a Cooper. The 10/22 did around 1/2" at 50m, the Marlin around 5/8", the Ruger around 3/4", and the Cooper around 3/8". I did put a Green Mountain barrel on the Ruger, and that got it to just under 1/2". I bought about 25k of Eley, and tried Hornady, and Remington. I did most ammo testing with the Cooper, and Eley was the best, then Remington, then Hornady. At 50m, Eley was around 3/8", Hornady closer to 5/8", at 100, Eley was around 3/4", with Hornady more like 1-1/4". My Cooper in 17hmr, is around 3/8" at 50m and 3/4" at 100m, with CCI or Remington 17gr loads. So accuracy wise, the 17m2, and 17hmr, are equivalent.

I was on a bad kick of collecting rimfire rifles for a few years, every flavour. Obviously the .22LR along with .22WMR, .17HM2, .17HMR, .17WSM and 5mm RM, this ran in parallel with collecting ammo. I had a soft spot for CZ's, and managed to convince a mod on RFC to part with a 452 Varmint in 17M2, Prophet brought that one from the USA for me, and a long time buddy that had a 452 American in Mach 2 as well. I've got a 10/22 conversion, but don't want to deal with the risk of a KB. I should pick up a Summit action for that barrel. I have a Lilja Mach 2 barrel on a 455 Varmint, it tumbles one of loads I have, I can't recall which (yellow tip/nickel case??). My first Mach 2 was a Marlin I think, it sits as it's usually the 452V I grab.

Fun little cartridge, now I'm going to have to drag some of these out tomorrow when the sky stops leaking.

I was close to a 452 Varmint in 17M2 here in Canada, but it fell through. Had a couple of Marlin 917M2s that shot OK. Recently spoke to a fellow buying a pile of 17M2 at my LGS, and had to ask what he's shooting it from. We had a good conversation about how well his SAKO Quad with the 17M2 barrel shoots=this thread a few days later.

Sort of my last kick at the can for the caliber. Actually, not "sort of"...it is, or will be the last 17M2 I consider. Can't be a big/heavy/lumpy thing (feels even dumber when it doesn't shoot well) but a sporter-weight SAKO would be a sweet little gun if I got a good one. We'll see.

Like most things, probably a better idea in my head than in practice. lol

I just got my new A17M2 delivered but have to get back off the farm to check it out. Today the old marlin in 17M2 has punished 62 gophers.

Tell me more? I need a A17M2 also. Found one! Didn't know they were available in canada. Hopefully the spare A17 Boyds stock I have fits.

I purchased a Sako mach2 Barrel directly from stoger A couple months ago. I believe it was $300. It was hard to find because they had somehow mislabelled it and put it under Shotgun accessories, or something like that. I also have a lija Heavy barrel, Varmint in Mach2 which obviously was bought separately. It’s a great little calibre
