Sako finnlight 85 vs finnlight 75 w/ Mcmillan

I have narrowed the decision down to two options, a finnlight 85 or a used finnlight 75 and add a McMillan Edge stock added to it for basically the same cost as a new 85. Both would be 300wsm.

What would you choose and more importantly why would you choose it?

I would love to hear from people that have handled/shot both and can comment on accuracy and consistency. I am a little worried about the 75's thin barrel but I am not sure if I am making an issue out of an irrelevant aspect of the rifle.

thanks,
Andrew

That's an easy one. The 75 with McMillan. Much better stock than factory and, IMO, the 75 is superior to the 85 for the magazine release alone.

I've had an 85 Finnlight with McMillan Edge, but only a regular 75 wood/blued. Is the bbl. on the 75 Finnlight thinner than on the 85 Finnlight? That would be strange.
Accuracy on my 85 was OK, but not great. Caliber was 30-06 in both. The 75 was more accurate, but it was a slightly heavier bbl., no flutes.

There's lots of Sako nuts on here which will describe the differences in detail shortly, I'm not that familiar with different models, I only know the ones I've had.

I'm with the others, 75 with the edge hands down. I didn't think the 75 had a smaller barrel contour, I just thought the flutes were different. Regardless the edge is far superior to the tubberware stock that comes with the 85 finnlite and I would take it on that alone. Both are great rifles though.

I have a 75 finnlight with an EDGE stock, that I will never part with. Also had two 85's with EDGE stocks, which I no longer own.

The 75 finnlight barrel is .575" OD at the muzzle, the 85 finnlight is .625" OD. Its not a target/bench rifle to pound away all day with, but hasn't been an issue yet.

Olive one is the 75, but now has a custom barrel in .260.

WOW blargon, nice collection!

What was the weight of your finnlight 75 with the edge? and scope/rings? (for weight purposes).

also what was it chambered in?

Originally a .308, with optilocks and a VXIII 2.5-8 weighed 7lbs even.

I have a 75 in 300 WSM and have loaded for 3 other 85's in 300 WSM. Both models shot the same for me with the same load except mine is about 130 fps slower than the other 85's. I used talley lightweights to somewhat help with the weight. It's not so heavy with a 4.5-14x40 leupold that I haven't taken it sheep hunting. I liked both models but the 85's were a bit lighter if you just wanted to leave it factory. They all shot under moa.
