Hello.

I have been offered an 85 Finnlight in 6.5x55, but I want a 30-06.
Can the ss Finnlight barrel be rebored to 30-06 and if so, how much would it cost?
The actions appear to be the same length, would there be any other issues with the conversion?

I am on Vancouver Island and don't know any gunsmiths.

Thanks for any help!

Roo.

Sako uses harder steel than most barrel makers and guys that rebore shy away from them for this reason. The cost would be comperable to getting a new barrel installed.
The easy way out is to buy what you want in the first place.

You want to rebore a 6.5x55 Finnlight. They are hard to come by, your nutz. Sell the dang thing and buy an '06.

Maybe look at buying a take-off Sako barrel in 30-06...or maybe 25-06 as they will fit the 6.5x55 receiver-same action size (IV)........if you want 25-06, I have a new take off from a Sako m75 Greywolf if you are interested. Item is posted in the EE

If I wasnt buying a couple other Sakos and a Tikka rifles right away, I'd jump buying the rifle from you.

Put an ad in the EE to trade for an .30-06. They are plentiful, 6.5x55 are not. Or do what I did, buy a shilen select match barrel and have it chambered and fitted.

But the key point is that you could not safely re-bore and re-chamber to .,30-06. The case diameter of 6.5 x 55 is larger than the .30-06.
As suggested, sell for what you want, or buy a barrel to install.
