If you absolutely had to have a finnlight would you get a 270 or 7mm mag or something else?

Hunting Coyotes, Pronghorn, deer, elk and moose.
Shots can go from 50 to 350 yards
Already have a 30-06 so that's out.

I would go with the 7mm. But I don't really like either. They both pretty much overlap the 30-06. Holding out for something bigger like 338 winmag or smaller like a 6.5x55 is a much better choice imo. I would go with a 6.5x55. You can get 85 grain bullets that will do coyotes well and 160gr bullets that will easily do moose. Just remember all the load data for it is so you don't blow up a old Krag in a 85 action it has tons of potential.

I have a 75 finnlight in 7mm RM sitting in a edge fill mcmillan, and it has stainless bottom metal not aluminum. It's been my "go to" for many years and I like it. This year however it's staying at home so I actually use a faux finnlight I built in 280.


That said, buying a fresh one today I would probably go 708

I have considered the 6.5x55 too. So will add it to the mix.

The Finnlight in a 7-08 is a very nice handy rifle, it's what my wife shoots. Would be a very close pick to the 25-06
 
I have a finnlight in both 2506 and .260, for deer sized game both are great, have taken a dozen goats, a pig and two deer in the last ten days, (currently back in New Zealand) with the 2506, not one has taken a step, just down like the hand of god, don't know why, on paper 2506 gets a bit of a beating sum times, but the 2506, seams to do real well, in the field, much better than my experience with .270, .243 and .308, right balance of speed and performance to the size of game (deer, pigs, thar, goats) 50-200kg animals.
I was after a .270, or bigger in a finnlight at the time, but was able to pick up a 25-06 for $1600 Cad, I am very happy with that choice.
Any non mag cal, that can push 2800-3000 with a standard bullet weight, over 100gr is a fine choice in a finnlight, the few magnum I have fired were slappy bastards, with lots of muzzle rise.
wouldn't mind a 9.3x62 in one,
When the .260 finnlight gets to NZ, (currently in a sea can on the way) its booked, for a chop to 16" and a suppressor install, 2506 is a tad to long with a suppressor installed, pain in the ass in the bush,
 
6.5x55 or a 260Rem get my vote, guess 7mm-08 too.

I kick myself for not buying a 6.5x55 and a 260 in the m75 rifles when I seen them posted here on CGN about 2 years against...judged missed out on the Swede. Would of been a great addition to my Sako m75 rifles
