Just curious if anyone would like to share their personal experiences or opinions on the Sako Finnlight? I already know they are very expensive, but wondering about accuracy, etc. Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks.

if there is one thing you shouldnt wonder about with tikka/sako, its accuracy. These will often shoot 1/2 moa and pretty much at worse, 3/4moa. Factory guarantees 1 moa. I've cycled a tikka and was VERY impressed with the smoothness of the action. Tikka being the low end company from sako, i'd expect sakos to be as good or better. If you've got the money, BUY IT FOR CRYING OUTLOUD

Edited to add: your next post should be something like this: Hey guys, here's my new sako finnlight i just bought

Oh, and welcome to CGN

After handling a couple at gun shops I found myself wanting one. A couple of weeks ago I found a used one in 7mm Remington Magnum. Bought it and am now waiting for rings bases and scope.

I own several other Sako products, all purchased used or new and at significant discount. These are relatively expensive rifles, I suppose I could have twice as many rifles for the money I've paid, but the balance, smooth operation, and exceptional accuracy are very much worth every penny. When you buy Sako you are paying for near or better than custom quality. I don't regret my investment.

No Problem NWTHhunter! the 8mm mag was owned by me before I sold it to ART.
That gun really barks. Ask Art. He was kissed by the Burris that sat on top of that beast. :p WOW :!: Thats why I sold it to him. I may own it again some day. Art gave me his word that I would have first crack at buying back if it goes on the market again. Cheers

Recoil- 8 Mag vs. 338 Mag

Well, one of the other boys could probably tell you better than I could. In fact I would be curious what they would say. My experience is very limited with the 338. In fact I only have shot one and that was several years ago. I don't remember the gun kicking much harder than the 300 Mag I was using at the time. I've heard others say the 338 is a hard kicking gun, but I guess like anything else it depends on the weight of the gun and the load, etc.

I can however personally testify on the recoil of the 8mm Mag, at least in the Remington Model 700 Classic. This is not an overly heavy gun. With my scope it still only weighs around 8.25 pounds. This gun comes with a substandard recoil pad in my opinion and recoil from the bench is significant. Its not as stout as a Ruger # 1 in 375 H&H, but pretty close. I figure any case that holds as much powder as the 8 mag has to bark a little!!! I know the two are totally different calibres, but the 338 would be appealling to me because it has a large selection of factory ammo, unlike the 8 mag.

Yeah, I've got a Sako L61 in 338 and find it an easy step up from my 7mm Rem Mag. The Sako stock seems to soften a lot of the punch, and the gun is rather heavy. I use it for Bison and occasionally Moose; its quite a remarkable performer.

I have a Sako L61 in 338. I find it an easy step up from my 7mm Rem Mag. It is heavy, relative to the Remington CDL (35 Whelen) I looked at a couple of days ago. The Sako stock design fits me very well and seems to soften the punch quite a bit. I use it for Bison and occasionally Moose; its quite a remarkable performer.

Well, I took the new (used) Finnlight out today. It's everything I have come to expect from Sako. The grip areas are nice, they give the gun a better feel than most other synthetic stocks I have tried.

The Finnlight will be with me for most of my hunting trips, but it is not my favourite shooter. I believe that my L61 will retain the dearest location in my locker. :)
