i recently came into a Sako Forrester. it is in a very nice wooden beaver-tail fore-ended stock, it has what i would consider to be a 24" medium to heavy contour barrel, it is chambered in .308 and is a post-Garcia example based on markings. it is in "as manufactured" condition and has seen less than 40 rds. since it was produced in the late 60's to '71 era in which these rifles were turned out by Sako. my question gentlemen is this; "can anyone tell me what the rate of twist in this rifles is?" i have done the old cleaning rod and tight patch with a flag on the cleaning rod to measure revolutions per inches measured trick, but am not convinced that it has been as accurate an indicator as say, someone with a piece of literature that says 1/12", which is what i came up with. any help on this would be sincerely appreciated.

as per,

i.

I think most, if not all, of the early 308 rifles had a 1:12 twist. 30-06 rifles used to all have 1 in 10. I used to think, for that reason, a 308 would be better for cast bullets, but never did get around to using a 308 for cast bullets.
