Scored a sako l461 today and have done some digging but not sure still what my best route would be for mounting optics. Is sako optilock pretty much my only option?

It does have rings on it but i dont think it would work with the scope i would prefer (50 mm obj)

Also the scopes i have on hand are 30mm tube if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance.

30mm tubes overpower the beautiful little action... I used a 10 power Lyman on mine for many years... with the old Sako Rings of the time.

I use the Optiloc system on mine, it just looks like they belong. You need the short bases and whatever sized rings to fit the scope. Burris makes a slotted base adapter that slides over the dovetail and is secured with a set screw. I can send you a picture if you message me your email or cell number.

Not sure if you get these Pica rails in your world, Recknagel in Germany make a pica rail that fits on all (most) older Sako rifles. I have one fitted on my old Forester L579.

Rifle comes with this i think. Looks kind of like the ones 4fifty8 posted. Maybe with the tughtening screw turned to the other side i could use them but they look very close to the bolt on the pic.

No, those are the vintage Sako mounts which are no longer made and came in 1" size only. They are excellent mounts and have windage adjustment, which the Leupold mounts don't have. Your best bet for 30mm. mounts, in my opinion, would be to avoid the two-piece Optilocks, which have a separate base along with the rings and are unnecessarily heavy, and instead use either (a) the 30mm Leupold Ringmounts or (b) the 30mm Sako Ring Mounts which are one-piece (see below). My preference would be the Sako Ring Mounts. They're available from Stoeger Canada. The Leupold and Sako ring mounts are made to slip right onto the Sako tapered dovetail machined into the top of the receiver and so eliminate the need for separate bases. All Sako rifles from the earliest L46 to the 85 (but not the 90) have this tapered dovetail, an excellent scope-mounting feature.

Note. Just to avoid confusion, what I've recommended are labelled Sako Ring Mounts. These are one-piece mounts that attach directly to the Sako tapered dovetail. They are different from the Optilock Rings that require Optilock bases and are part of the heavier two-piece Optilock system.

Thank u very much. I believe thats what ill do. I like those they look good. Unless i would come across a nice 1" tube scope first and just use it with the existing mounts.

I USE THESE ONE PIECE RING MOUNTS ON ALL MY SAKO RIFLES EXCEPT MY AV CHAMBERED IN 338 WIN MAG. I HAD NO CHOICE ON THAT RIFLE NEEDED THE EXTENDED BASE FOR MOUNTING LENGTH SO WENT WITH THE TWO PC OPTILOCKS.
THERE BOTH GREAT IMHO . sorry for the cap locks lol
