My 375 H&H has a hinged floorplate and am wondering if it would be feasible to convert it to a detachable box. I know some Sako models have detachable magazines so was wondering if something could be adapted. Thanks

For a short time Sako offered a conversion kit to replace the floorplate with a detachable box magazine, they sold for about $100.00 and did not work worth ####! My question is why would you want to change from an idiotproof system that never fails and can not be lost to a system that ensures far more feeding problems and can be easily lost???

Sako

Alberta Tactical Rifle-Not to sound trite but it is because I "want to" change my rifle. I have several with the hinged floorplate, but I want one that has a detachable box magazine.

I have two of the conversions offered by Stoeger in Canada for my Sako in 30-06. One of the clips seemed to work better than the other with less feeding problems. I have since gone back to using the floor plate system....as Alberta Tactical says "it works". I paid approx $90 each.

Hermie, the vintage Sakos worked so well I was just wondering, I have collected Sakos for 30 years and am a bit of a purist. The new 75 series rifle with the detachable mag work well, but the conversions for the older models like the 61 did not work well for the most part. The mags depended on a small plastic tit being held in place by the standard floorplate release button, feeding issues abound as the rail of the action were never designed for mag feeding. I understand the " want to" thing and thats cool, but I hate seeing classics modified and especially with ill fitting, poorly designed conversion kits.

Thanks

Thanks for all the advice, that being said I still would like to try the conversion as it has been said it is reversable. Anyone know where the conversion for a 375 might be available. I may be posting an apology for going against you guys advice but really want to try. Thanks
