My location limits my ability to attend the shows, so I am kind of at a disadvantage when it comes to tracking down specific used items. I am currently looking for a Sako L61R action.

I paid $250 for a 300 Win Mag barreled action and rings, in poor condition, last year. I'd like to find a non-magnum action for a second project, but can't justify paying $700 + for a complete rifle that really shouldn't be torn apart; particularly when I can buy a Montana 1999 action for the same price, or just a bit more for stainless.

Does anyone know of a L61R that may be available? Or can anyone point me in a direction that may improve my chances of finding one of these?

Well, I am really only interested in an L61R action, not a complete rifle. I've seen these guns for sale, costing anywhere between $750 and $1,100. Of course the cost is dependant on the condition of the rifle, and that seems to be where I'm running into difficulties.

There is little sense in paying $750 for a rifle if I intend toss the barrel and likely the stock as well, particularly when I can buy a new Montana 1999 action for $699 (or $763 for stainless).

Last year I paid $250 for a barreled action and Sako rings, no stock. The condition of the bore was tragic. The blue on the receiver was toast but there was no pitting or other blemishes to the metal. The bolt was functioning well, with some discoloration on the extractor claw, and the bottom metal was in the same condition as the receiver. I'd like to find another deal like that. I'm not sure how realistic that is.

At the end of production when the old style Sako actions were still available a new action sold for about $600.

They are a better action than the Montana I think. If I had a clean action I wouldn't sell it for less than $500....

If there's an action at the fun show I'll PM you with the price and condition.
BTW there's a 30-06 L61R for sale at Tradex. $750.00

Wouldn't buying from Gunbroker entail a lot of paperwork and additional expense in order to export out of the States and into Canada?

Phone or email Tradex, good guys , If there are a lot of these, he may
brake one down for you if there is a crap barrel one.
BTW, after 30 years, I find the best way to lose friends is to be asked to
pick up " a nice ++++ gun for me" at gun shows- to much, not nice enought,
etc - or they want it free. At location thou I can see where you may
have trouble getting to shows
