Hey everyone, does anyone here own and hunt with a Sako m995? I've recently bought one off a friend in 30-06. I haven't been able to find out much about them other than the action is based on the one from the Sako TRGs. Anybody have any links to more info? I did download the owners manual.

Anjy Sako is a nice Sako. The stock is a mcmillan.

Quite a few of the "Sako Fiberclass" stocks were made of laid up fiberglass I believe I heard they were McMillan stocks also, but the TRG-S /M995 stock is not a laid up fiberglass stock and I don't believe it is a McMillan product, I believe Sako made it, it is a nice stock nonetheless.

I used to have a 995 TRG-S in 25.06. It would hit what you aimed at without any trouble....it really liked factory Rem 100gr. pills....My best confirmed shot was 200 meters on a coyote. Dropped him on the spot!!

Anybody here know what the TRG-S actually stood for?? I never bothered to research it, but am curious about it now. My guess was TRG meant target? And the -S stood for sights? As my rifle had irons on it. Miss that rifle, but as I am a lefty, and it was a righty it just didnt fit me good enough.

Now im after an A-bolt lefty in 243wssm.

The iron sight option was much more common overseas, but there are a few over here. Very consistent shooter. First two always touching, third shot, 1/2" to the right, just like clockwork.

Wow, there's more around than I thought. Mine has an empty dovetail and screw holes where there used to be iron sights. I threw on a cheap scope in time to sight in for rifle season this year, and got 2 does, but by next year I want to get a better scope on and play more at a range. I like the stock, I was never partial to synthetic stocks before, but I liked this one. I found one for sale today, for $1800, with a scope, but still no where near what I paid for mine.

I have a TRG-S in .30-.378 weatherby, it also came with open sights. Very nice rifle and it is accurate. I don't shoot it very much anymore but it is certainly one of my favorite rifles. I'm not too sold on the stock and there are not too many replacements this side of a custom stock. I believe Macmillan makes a drop in replacement but it is an identical stock as far as outward dimensions go.

I've seen at least 3 on the exchange boards over the last year or so going for over what the asking price was new. Right around the $1500 mark used. they seem to be in demand because the M995 action is long enough to be chambered to just about all the really large magnum rounds.

When you replace the stock, you also need new bottom metal, which makes it a pretty pricey endeavour. Around $300 for the bottom metal, if memory serves. - dan

McMillan will not sell the stock without the bottom metal if the fit is to be guaranteed! I have one coming in a couple of weeks to replace a brocken factory stock.
