Sako or Kimber?

Hey all- First time posting and I would like to hear your opinions on these two rifles. I was dead set on the Sako untill I went shopping/looking yesterday at Shooters Choice here in Waterloo, Ont. Told them I am looking for a 243win for whitetailes/yotes and fox. I have always planed on buying the a Sako and was actually going to get the Deluxe for the nicer stock (Im a cabinetmaker and I realy apreciate a nice wood stock) He then pulled down a Kimber for me to look at which felt like half the weight and it also looked great and just had an oil finish but I could tell from the stock that more time was put into it and after reading today online that they are hand made. Anyway, so here is my question....The Kimber is $1280 and the Sako is $2200....I am planning on having this rifle forever but it will get used ALOT. I am also planning on buying a Big Game gun come spring time in probably the 300WSM and will probably for sure buy the Sako Deluxe for that one which will also help out being heavier with the increased kick. As far as that....I am 6'1 / 240lbs so I can handle quite a bit that way.

Until yesterday I had never heard of Kimber. Can someone give me there opinion or views on this riffle and the same for the Sako. I was going to go for the Tika but have oppted out of it. Money within reason is no problem.

For the most part it seems that Kimber now concentrates on their 1911 clones. I don't know anything about their rifles really, but it seems they make some really nice ones.
 
You can't go wrong with either, both top notch guns, both have excellent reputations. If you're eventually going to get two guns get one of each.
 
I own a Sako Model 75 in .223 and one in .270. I have owned a Kimber .22 rifle that I dealt earlier this year. My take on Kimber is that they make very pretty rifles but the fit, finish and accuracy of their products isn't in the same league as Sako. Kimber doesn't do the fine details well or at least they didn't on my .22 Classic.

The downside to the Sako Hunters is their weight. They are fully fed and if you intend on humping a rifle great distances either the Kimber of possibly the Sako Finnlight might be better choices.
 
I would go with anything that is in your bugget.
they are both fine rifles but the sako as other have said they have better fit and accracy.

Are you talking about a new Kimber or one of the older ones? Can't speak for the new models, the older ones made in the original Kimber factory are easily as good or better than current Sakos. That being said I've owned far more Sakos than Kimbers......

I'd go with whichever one "feels" right to you. Wear your hunting coat in and ask if you can put a sling on the two rifles, walk around the store, do they both stay on your shoulder? Do they both come up and fit your frame the same?

Tough to go to far wrong with either, but if the price difference is $1,000 I would buy the Kimber and put some European glass on it.
 
The guy I hunt with just bought a Kimber 270 WSM and he is a Sako fan, but he said that his Kimber is alot nicer and best shooting gun he has had out of the box...he will be guying another over the Sako.

Both the rifles I am looking at are brand new models. Its going to be a tuff buy as I really like them both!

Here is a question for you all. If I were to buy both which one would be best to buy in the 243 which I will be shooting the most and then 300wsm or larger will be used once or twice a year. I kind of think to go with the cheaper plain finish Kimber for the 243 and the nice Sako Deluxe for the 300 but what do you all think? I know that a light gun can be harder to shoot and be acurate so that is one thing I am worried about also...that kimber is VERY light!

Also on the larger gun....I relode my self so its just a mater of buying dies....should I go with something more exotic than the 300 or maybe even jump to the 325 if they have it in the sako or even the 338. This will be a deer/bear/moose rifle

Let me know your opinions on that please?

RyanBambach, caliber is really up to you, I personally like the 300 WSM but have a 308 because I can only imagine how hard it would be to get the ammo, at a store in the boonies, if it was misplaced on a trip...

I am a stand hunter, so I have a HEAVY rifle, it's a savage 12FV in 308 and and one in 223, set up the same... I don't mind the weight, but I can see how a heavy rifle would be a pain in the butt on a hunt that required you to lug it around...

I own a 270WSM Kimber 8400 and have nothing but praise for the rifle, even at $2000 I would pick it over the Sako hands down. We have three Kimbers in my group and we are all very pleased with them. The model 84 is a wonderfully light rifle but they also make a heavy barrel unit if you want to shoot alot.

when you shoot a fox with the 243, it ain't gonna be pretty :redface:

I have zero experience with Kimbers, and little with Sako, but Sako is nice, its got my vote.
 
If I was going to spend $2200 in a rifle it wouldn't be a Sako. Go take a look at a Sauer, it may be a few dollars more, but you may like it more!
 
I like the look and feel of the Sako, but I've read a lot of good things in the magazines about Kimber's rifles.

Sounds to me like you found the Kimber to be better feeling and more agreeable to pack. I think the decision is clear.
 
Well I have been doing alot of thinking here and here is my decision....I am going to get the Kimber in the 243 which will be used more often and if I were every to get the stock scratched up its just a very simple oil finish and would be a piece of cake to repair. It will also be a light riffle for me to carry and hunt with over the terrain I hunt deer/yotes in.

I am going to buy the 300WSM in the Sako Deluxe which will give me the accuracy and the nice deep finished laquerd stock which will make a nice show piece also.
