Sako Quad Rifle

I was looking at one of these at The Shooting Edge in Calgary yesterday. It looks like a very interesting concept. For those who haven't seen one yet, it is a Sako reciever with 4 available, interchangeable barrels in .22 LR, .17M2, .22WMR, & .17HMR. http://www.sako.fi/quad_main.html

It would end up being about $1200 for a Quad with .22LR and a .17HMR barrels and a mag in each caliber. You can buy a CZ Varmit or American in each caliber for well under $500 apiece. So it would have to shoot a lot better than a CZ to be worth it, IMHO. And it's pretty hard to beat the accuracy of a CZ. But then again it is a Sako....

I'd like to hear from someone who has actually shot one, if anyone has yet.
 
I read a review of one in G&A ( I think) and barrel-to-barrel accuracy was quite good, as was fit and finish. But as krausb points out, the price tag is quite steep, depending on how many barrels you get (I think you can hit $2k with all 4 barrels). While it might be more convenient to have 4 cals in one gun, you still have to lug the barrels around (thankfully the 22lr and hm2 mags are the same, as are the 22mag and HMR mags).
 
I shot one on Wed night. One of the Stoger reps had it out to the range. It had the .22lr barrel in place. It also had a Burris Mil Dot type scope on it. If I had the money I would buy it with all the barrels and the fitted case($3900.00). It feels great in the hands. Very classy
 
I read about this rifle in the Guns & Ammo, "Complete Book Of RIMFIRE RIFLES".

This rifle exhibited good performance with groups ranging from 1.89 to 0.84 at 100 yards.

Both my CZ452 American & my Ruger77/22 with Green Mountain barrel will equal or better this. That said it took a lot of tweaking & experimenting to get there.

However the versatility of the different loadings & the "out of the box accuracy" is intriguing even though it comes at a premium price. If the price doesn't turn you off, then go for it.:D

We were talking today about raffling one ofthese off for our club , in June.Sounds doable, and a $10 ticket would be a cheap chance!!:D

I would love it i IF: It would shoot better than CZs, but from all I have
been able to find out, it really doesnt. No worse, just no better. And the
stock isn't exactly lovely for that money.

So, how did it shoot? Did it feel/shoot like you would expect a thousand dollar .22 to shoot? How's the trigger feel? Has anyone else out there shot one of these yet?

I am liking this gun, but I'm not sure that I'll really get my money's worth out of it if I only plan on getting 2 barrels unless it is one hell of a shooter out of the box....
 
I have a Brno Model 1 and it shoots as nice. The synthetic stock on the Sako makes it feel like a larger caliber rifle when you are shooting it.I could not believe how smooth the action was for a .22. The Burris scope was great. I can only imagine how nice it would shoot if someone spent some time with it and got it properly sighted in for there shooting style
