What are you guys using to mount scopes on your sakos ? I have a Model 75 300WM and need different rings. Are the Sako Optilocks better than the Leupold rings ? Any other alternatives in Canada ? Must fit a 30mm tube (still deciding on scope but it will be a 50 or 56mm bell)

I like my Leupolds on my M85, never tried the Opti-locks, but like any other Sako product it is probably top notch. FWIW One ring I absolutely hated were Warne Maxim's...garbage if you ask me.

On my Sako 85 (in 7mm-08) I went with the 1 piece optilock ring (no separate base).

They're built well (aka - solid and heavy) but expensive.

First time I've ever had to pay $150+ for a set of rings.

I have Optilocks on both my Sakos. Personally I think the Leupold QRW are better made than the Optilocks, but unfortunately they don't work with Sako bases. The threads on one set of Optilock rings I have are quite poorly made and for the money I was not impressed.
One thing worth bearing in mind is how high the Optilocks are. I have a set of "low" mounts on my 85 synthetic which has a 50mm objective 1" tube Leupold. On my varmint barreled 75 I use a set of low 30mm mounts with another 50mm objective 'scope. With a 56mm 'scope the medium rings should be fine.

Optilocks

IMHO:

Optilocks are definitely good rings/bases. I prefer them on the Sakos I (have)own(ed). They are expensive when compared to millets, weavers, and other cheaply made stamped steel / tin / aluminum parts, but the Sako stuff is generally very well made. Of maybe a dozen sets that have passed through my hands, I managed to bugger the threads on a single hole in a single ring (weak threads as a gentleman indicated earlier in the thread), whereas I've never managed to screw up any threads in Leup mounts. The Optilock system is simple, sturdy, and it works extremely well on Sako 75/85 receivers.

With respect to price, Optilocks are more pricey than the Leupolds, but not by all that much, aka Leup rings/bases = $110.00, Optilock rings/bases = $150.00. The additional $40.00 is worth the ease of mounting and compatabilty with the Sako receiver, unless of course one doesn't have $40, but perspective would suggest this shouldn't be too much of an issue for someone that can afford the Sako rifle entry fee in the first place. If you want to experience what pricey really means, try a Blaser saddle mount and rings for the princely sum of over $500.00, or if you want to truly feel excruciating pain, try buying (or at least wishing you could afford) a factory claw mount for a Merkel, at (are you ready for this?) $2100.00 !!!!!!!!!!

I just bought sako bases and rings and they are great. The only bad thing I hear said is they are expensive. Well they are arguably the best so they should cost a little more.
Just a note, I have a T3 and when I went to mount my 50mm leupold the low rings that a gunsmith sold me were too low. Not by much but the medium rings is what I ended up needing.
Good luck and enjoy your optilocks

I much prefer the Leupold. They allow a bit more eye relief if that's an issue for you. The Optilocks that require a separate base, on a rifle that already has integral dovetails, seem kinda silly.

The older Sako mounts that attach directly to the dovetails work well, but have less eye relief and, to me, look very unattractive.
