Optilocks
IMHO:
Optilocks are definitely good rings/bases. I prefer them on the Sakos I (have)own(ed). They are expensive when compared to millets, weavers, and other cheaply made stamped steel / tin / aluminum parts, but the Sako stuff is generally very well made. Of maybe a dozen sets that have passed through my hands, I managed to bugger the threads on a single hole in a single ring (weak threads as a gentleman indicated earlier in the thread), whereas I've never managed to screw up any threads in Leup mounts. The Optilock system is simple, sturdy, and it works extremely well on Sako 75/85 receivers.
With respect to price, Optilocks are more pricey than the Leupolds, but not by all that much, aka Leup rings/bases = $110.00, Optilock rings/bases = $150.00. The additional $40.00 is worth the ease of mounting and compatabilty with the Sako receiver, unless of course one doesn't have $40, but perspective would suggest this shouldn't be too much of an issue for someone that can afford the Sako rifle entry fee in the first place. If you want to experience what pricey really means, try a Blaser saddle mount and rings for the princely sum of over $500.00, or if you want to truly feel excruciating pain, try buying (or at least wishing you could afford) a factory claw mount for a Merkel, at (are you ready for this?) $2100.00 !!!!!!!!!!
