Sako TRG-22/42

I have a TRG 42, as does XLR8 on here and IVO, not sure who else has one...
I usualy expect to see IVO posting on these kinda threads before I do haha.

In the right hands I'd say they are one hole accurate. and yes I still have mine, and yes it's still for sale.

at 100 yards .15" groups happen often enough not to be a fluke but they do open up when the barrel gets warm and with my skill average is .5", mind you I dont bother at 100 yards anymore, waste of barrel life!. For a precision Rifle rig its great. first time at 1000 yards with it, every shot(about 60 of them) stayed inside the inner ring and it was a windy day. first shot was a V bull and most of the rest were bulls' and more V's. This rifle will out shoot me and my scores will only improve with practice. no need to look for better gear here, other than maybe optics, nightforce being a reasonable upgrade.
reloading is a must with the 338. and accurate loads were easy to find.
250grain lapua scenars 96grains of H 1000 at 3080fps average with a ED of 8 fps is the current load.
all in all I have not seen the need for another rifle in a while now, as anything I buy just wont measure up!... custom or not. mind you I could have gotten a nice custom rig cheaper, but then again SS barrels are so soft;)

I've put a lot of cheaper Federal factory .308 ammo through my TRG-22 (NF 8-32x56 on it) and its great.....I like shooting 'things' though, so not to sure about groups.....it'll shoot a decent poker hand out of 10 cards at 200 yards though....if that counts....or pop cans filled with water and frozen at 250-300 most of the time anyways...I'd say 3 out of 5 shots per mag....decent enough for me to plink with......maybe go deer huntign with it this fall too.....as the other "hunting rifle I have is a 45-70 GG...hahaha.

(admittedly a fair amount of the misses are operator induced....the rifle is fantatsic!)

I just got my new green with phosphate TRG 22 recently and on friday my new S&B 5 - 25 x 56 is going on it if the delivery fairies cooperate!

How long did you have to wait for the 22 ? I ordered a 42 back in aught 5. Haven't got it yet  !

I am sure they are a quality gun but to say do they really have one hole accuracy... Just because you shoot a particular rifle whether it be Accuracy International, PGW, McMillan etc does guarantee anything. There are alot of variables that come into play with the shooter I think the most important. I attended a Precision Rifle crse where we shot out to a 1000 yds and with a number of very expensive so called one hole accurate rifles. The top shooter on the course was using a stock Remington PSS. What does that tell you. This is not a slam against the rifles by the way, I am just saying that just because you shoot a certain rifle, does not guarantee success.

757's shoots one hole, as does mine. But then again Sat26's Remy 30-06 also shoots one hole (at a time) pretty well too :D

oh and mine's still for sale...........................

This is my first post in a while as Im still on vacation but sorry HKMark23 I thought you already knew how to shoot!;) All kidding aside these are great rifles with a long history of top quality manufacturing and quality control as most people know with any older Sako. One hole groups are more the rule than the exception with these rifles once set up and a load is found.

I have a TRG 21 and TRG 42 in .308 and .338 Lap respectively and they truely are exceptional rifles, I had a cousin of mine, who is a machinist and tool and die maker, look at these rifles and he seemed to be quite impressed with the tolerances and precision of the work that went into the construction of the rifles.

100 metre shooting is very boring and a waste of time and ammo with these and any other precision rifle, it only gets fun out at 300m and beyond. 300m groups with the .338 are between 5/8-1" and the .308 slightly bigger but all are easy "headshots" none the less.
