SAKO TRG-22 vs. PGW Coyote

Hey Guys,

After my attempts at the DTA SRS (not as much a fan as I thought). I tried the PGW Timberwolf and loved it, however I find the 338 match ammunition significantly out of my price range. I have decided on the 308 caliber and am trying to figure out which of these two rifles would most of the gun nuts suggest? I haven't tried the Coyote but my thoughts on the Timberwolf I believe would be close enough on the Coyote, just with the smaller 308 caliber. I have yet to fire a SAKO TRG-22, however I have handled one at the local gun range. So if anyone has both, which do you think would be the better rifle for precision shooting?

Timberwolf, end of discussion. It is a production custom gun, the sako is most deffinatelty not. And from what I've seen from Trgs factory barrels accuracy is no where near the PGW

Really you cant go wrong with either. If you like one better than the other then get it, if your split get a pgw simply because there a great Canadian company that not only makes awsome rifles but also supports the shooting comunity while providing great service.

How much is that?

My local gun store gets it in for just under $3 a round

I Saw on the previous thread that they completely went off topic, with both mentioning that they are fine choices:

Pros SAKO:
60 degree bolt
Cheaper than PGW
10 round double stacked magazines
Solid all around

Cons:
Expensive Accessories
Not made in Canada

PGW Coyote:
Solid all around
Made in Canada
Cheaper Folding stock set up

Cons:
8 round single stack
More expensive than SAKO TRG-22

Yes it was a good discussion that deteriorated into the classic circle jerk. Its a cgn tradition.

Keep in mind that the TRG mags are not a true double stack as they get narrow at the top to center the round in the mag. Other than that i agree that you cannot go wrong with either. Both will shoot sub 1/2", just how accurate they get after that is up to the guy using it more so than the rifle itself.

I was at the same decision a couple of years ago and chose the PGW....very happy with my choice.
I had also looked at and shot TRG, Blaser, HS-Precision, AI, and going custom built again. These are all great rifles but shooting the PGW made my mind up.

.338 Lapua isn't that bad once you have a bit of good brass and look after it.

I have a TRG22 and I like it. It shoots better than I can. I think you'd have to be a really good shooter to tell the difference between a CGW Coyote and a TRG22. Considering that you really like the PGW, you should probably get that. Because if you don't, you always regret settling for something less. Buy something your going keep and like for a long time.

How much does cost factor into your decision? My plain jane (black stock, blued barrel) TRG 22 arrived a few days ago brand new from a non sponsor and I paid $3020 before taxes and shipping. PGWs are close to $5000 right?

If you do decide to go the TRG route my advice is to shop around. I'm not sure why but prices are all over the place. If you want a green or tan version you're better off importing from the states as their prices are more sane then up here.

PGW Coyote is awesome, slick action, great mags, SOLID bedding, McMillan stock (nothing needs to be said there). Would own one now if my money wasn't flying out of pockets for my current rigs.

The Sako TRG22 is a great rifle too, and I will likely have one next year. The actions are awesome, barrels are great, good ergonomics on the stock, accessories are retarded expensive though, but Harris makes a good bipod and Richard Near makes a great brake and base for them too.

It is a toss up really. In the end a Canadian made military grade sniper rifle is really cool to have.

I've reviewed both one here. Both are really great rifles and I've gone back and forth on which is better. Current leaning is towards PGW but get the one YOU want.

Looks like I need to try and find someone with a sako trg22 in my area to try it out as I have already tried the timberwolf, but not sure if that is comparable to the coyote or would i need to try the coyote by itself.

Coyote will feel the same as the Timberwolf but shoot softer.
I find the recoil impulse of both the T-Wolf and Coyote to be very linear and easy to get comfortable behind.
The way it felt was actually what sold me on it...keeping in mind it weighs 19 lbs all in.
In .338 Lapua for instance the TRG is a little more 'lively'....either one in .308 shoot easy.

I have a TRG-22 and love it but never fired a PGW Coyote so I can't comment on how they compare.

One thing to consider, 3 PGW Coyote's in the exchange forum currently with one of them being in there for a couple months now and another one offering a "payment plan".

Last TRG-22 to go up for sale in the exchange forum sold in under a week, there are currently no TRG-22's in the exchange forum up for sale and there is often a WTB looking for a TRG-22. Something to consider.

However that being said, the PGW is the new cool gun on the block... everyone seems to want one, but few spend the money to get one. TRG's are common place by comparison.
