Sako's New S20 Rifle

SAKO

Looks like Beretta have a very heavy hand on the new designs at Sako, which I think is a very big mistake. You buy a brand for that brand's strength, not to morph it into the same as you? So many merged manufacturers seem to miss this point, and they end up ruining a perfectly good brand. Someone at Sako should stand up and remind them of this.

Should be marketed as a Beretta S20 not a Sako.

Guess I run against the grain on this one. It looks good on paper and I’m very curious to see it in person. I like thumbhole stocks (I’ll own an R8 someday soon) and the embedded chassis is a great way to tighten up tolerances and improve accuracy in a mass produced firearm. Will I buy one, probably not, but this may attract new people previously uninterested in the brand.

Sure, it’s not a Sako of old, but neither are the new TRG’s and nobody complains about those. As for “old” Sako vs “new” Sako, having owned a few older ones and a new to me 85 Grizzly, the 85 Grizzly is every bit the equal of it’s predecessors. If the S20 pays the bills and allows the company to keep building 85 Grizzlies its a win for everyone.

So basically it is a tikka receiver + pic rail front back, tikka bolt + 3 lugs. Better magazine, but not sako 85 double stack feed.

Substantially better stocks than base tikkas. And it is $2k. I think its reasonable really, CTR is $1.3K with a junk stock.

If you are to go with bare bones tikka and aftermarket chassis you are at the same ballpark with more options, but out of the box S20 is for once is reasonable priced, very reasonably I think.

If I had to take a production rifle right as it is an never touch a thing I would be very tempted with S20 to be honest.

Seems like they are trying to think out of the box a bit, but, still stuck on traditions, that some of which need to change a bit. Offering a few T3X and new features and working to compete with Howa, Bergara by adding some features they don't have.
