I am going to be flushing my outboard, and picking up some Salt-Away, and I was thinking this could be perfect for cleaning my SKS and 858 after shooting corrosive ammo. I currently use hot water first, and then the usual regimen, but I`m going to try Salt-Away and report back. (No, I don`t work in the marine industry)

Has anyone tried this, any comments?

were you not happy with the hot water alone? if you are then why spend money? spend the money in more ammo.

Well, I already spent the money on the boat :) and a quart goes a long way... and I don`t plan on flushing my motor with Gunzilla!
All kidding aside, sounds ideal, has anti-corrosive properties, is highly concentrated and might be ideal for soaking bolts, springs, the gas shroud on the barrell, trigger groups and other places hard to get at with a toothbrush, or qtip, plus it doesn`t smell!

In regards to cleaning your gun, use whatever floats your boat. For cleaning your outboard I'll call it snake oil. (IMO)
As a boat owner for 15 years I've only used water. Pull the boat out of the salt, drive to the lake that is 10 min.from home, back in and run it for 5-10 minutes. I carry a scrub brush with me and wash the boat while I'm waiting.
peace...

Just use vinegar. It's what I use on my 858 as it's cheaper than windex. It's pretty much what is in salt away and the acid will neutralize salt. salt away has acetic acid, weird so does vinegar! Vinegar is composed of about 5% acetic acid --> CH3COOH, now that I just saved you a bunch of $$ you guys each owe me a beer. :)

Interestingly enough the stuff you use to clean salt stain off leather boots is also vinegar based..........I will soon have more ways to clean my 858 than Murphy has liver pills.

I got a flex shaft from CT about 6" long or so, the end has a male 1/4" hex, and the business end has a 1/4" hex female socket, I am going to make up an adapter for a .410 shotgun mop and use it with a drill to polish / clean the chamber of my sks, not having something like that is bothering me. *sorry for the derail.
