Salvage project - MS 1924 -
Sorry can't get the photos to work.
I've had this barreled action kicking around for about 15 years. I am trying to decide what to do with it. I like light, short, handy rifles, and I often hunt with open, or peep sights. So I am thinking of making this into a budget custom rifle, and try to make a rifle out of it that comes close in length and weight to my Husqy 4100's. The bore looks OK, but I think a new shorter barrel with a slimmer profile would be needed to bring the weight down. As it stands this MS barreled action is about 9 oz heavier than the husqy, but the barrel is longer and of heavier profile. Mounting a scope can be expensive and/or challenging on the split bridge so I am wondering how a quick release scout scope set up would work for me. Also thinking of a bolt mounted peep. The finish on the rifle should be deep dark glossy blue, and I want to take on the challenge of stocking it myself.
A)So to start, I am not sure how to go about preparing the action and metal parts for blueing. If I should do it myself, or if I pay a gunsmith and what will it cost.
B)I am also not sure how easy/difficult it is to rebarrel this action.
C) Any ideas how to go about locating the right gunsmith to do the work.
Open to any and all comments, suggestions and advice!
If I get this project underway I anticipate spreading it out over 2-3 years (only way I can afford it)
