Finally got a chance to shoot my new SAM 1911 Commander 9mm today. It ejects the empties directly into my face. They were pinging off my forehead, glasses, cheek, you name it. Is there a tweak for eliminating this behavior?

Thanks,

M

If adjusting the extractor doesn't produce the desired outcome, then consider replacing the ejector for a longer one. Some people recommend putting a bevel on the ejector face. Here is some wisdom from another forum (I tend to agree with)

"Typically, the ejector has been modified by lengthening or shortening it. This generally alters the rate or energy at ejection point. You can maybe alter the trajectory (slightly) with a bevel but remember it only contacts the shell in very small cross section. It acts as a fulcrum, altering the axis of the brass trajectory; not a "boot""

Every time I see a post like this and the first advice is change the recoil spring in a new gun, is just silly. The pistol is ejecting the spent cases, their just not going right and back. As stated by Edojan you have a minor problem with the ejector or extractor. Surf the net and you'll find multi photos of how these parts should look and how to fit them. Bet two minutes with a file will smarten this pistol right up.

My SAM military puts them over my right shoulder .But the odd one hits you right in the forehead.
Keep forgetting to pickup a spare ejector to play with.

Hey op.....whats the quality like with that commander ? Other than the small issue you have.

As far as I am concerned, no better or worse than my Norc 45 commander. The Norc is noticeably lighter and doesn't spit brass in my face.

The SAM has some sharp edges on the thumb safety just like the Norc had. The SAM is parkerized, the Norc is blued, but that doesn't bother me.

My SAM 1911 MIL E pelted me alot in the face. I changed out the recoil spring to a progressive 10# spring, and the super long ejector for a extended EGW one and seems like Its ejecting closing to 3-5 o clock vs closer to 5-6. I found the ejector was easily bent.

The green should thow the brass back would it not? try straight and see what happens?, mine dumps them out at about 80degrees or so , to the side of me.

I spent time on two sams, playing with the ejectors and extractors. My experience (and working fix) is that the stock springs are weak. The slide speed is too high with factory ammo. Bone stock, both guns would eject fine with lower power ammo. Putting in new springs corrected 6 o’clock ejection with higher power loads.
