Ordered from Brownell's two Wilson Combat 1911 mags (Elite Tactical Mags) and the Ed Brown Maxiwell (blued/chainlink III). These came today, and no duties charged by customs. Yay!

Did the upgrade this evening and it took about 10 minutes. I viewed a couple of YouTube videos several times before I undertook the work.

Observations:
1. Wilson Combat Mags - awesome mags, no issues inserting and releasing from the SAM 1911
2. The Ed Brown Maxiwell - it drops in to the SAM. There was a slight friction, just added some MPro-7 oil, and went in fine.
3. The ACT mag that came with the SAM fits fine with the Ed Brown Maxiwell, so does the Elite Tactical mags from WC.

The beauty of this Ed Brown Maxiwell is that you have the option of removing the magwell using an allen key.

No problems with it. Shot great out of the box.

Just make sure the thread cap is on tight as I noticed it started to come loose during shoots. This SAM 1911 is tight.

Wayupnorth,

Before I purchased my Sam tactical, I saw your video comparing a Norc and a SAM 1911. The upgrade that you did gave me the inspiration to do the magwell upgrade as well (sans the tac/laser).

I did eventually purchase a gov't Norc 1911 (9###xx s/n) and it was in a pretty good shape and finish. Will be going to the range this w/e to do its maiden shoot.
