Guys,
Had another Newbie out keen to chase down some Meat.

Day was perfect, really frosty conditions early in the AM, which turned out to be clear blue skies once the Sun come up an burned off some fog.

Hear a lot about how sambar don't like frost, well the pictures can do the talking.

We headed up an glassed over some prime country for the early stages of the morning an watched as 4 hinds had fed up an off over a ridgeline about 300 away, that was all good an we stayed put just listening an glassing for a while later.

Quite a while later I noticed a stag crossing the clearing, so we watched. as old mate was just happy to see Real Live Sambar deer in the flesh! easy customer!!

I glassed a hind up in the bush an we kept tabs on her, she wasn't moving far an I figured the stag was going over to her!

5 minutes after that stag come out an crossed, bugger me dead another larger deer come out an did the same thing... Distance was around half a K down, So I said not much we can do from up here just watch, but if one more comes up we'l go after em!

10 minutes after the 2nd, a Large! stag came out an cruised along the same route!! You beauty, grab the #### lets go,

We ran down a frosted an frozen landscape to the gulley floor an off to stalk these animals, in hope they weren't too far away up the mountains, near the sunny side.

Once we got to the base of the ridge, we went into stalk mode, stalked for quite a few hours as we hiked up the mountains to where the point of the mountain was, an that would be where we then turned to come back down.

Typically stalked some awesome areas, an got up toward the top an was not payin all my attention when HONK an off crashed a big antlered animal, movement off to the Left gave away another slightly smaler antlered stag who was unsure of what we were, a little bit too much movement an it crashed off.. So close but so far. After all meat was the aim of the hunt!

So kinda thinkin we buggered that up an will go back an re access, we made it down off the hill an as we neared the bottom, in a small quite peaceful gulley a Hind was still out feeding So without much fuss ( except a unloaded pump rifle) I threw my backpack on the ground an told Davo to lay off it an do the deed.

For a blokes first shot at a Live Sambar, he handled it beautifully, an sent a 180gr Win Large Game special, toward the Hind, I watched in the Binos as the deer Copped the full force of the .308, it took off straight away...

I congratulated the shooter an we talked for 4 minutes or so before heading up to where the Deer was, quickly found a few spots of blood, but then heard a bit of a crash up the gulley 30ms, Sure enough the hind had tipped right over an hadn't gone more than 30ms.

One shoulder was busted, lung damaged an heart had a hole in it.

Happy happy happy.

The Carry out was full on, the fun had stopped quite a while ago, whilst gutting an preparing what we could while we were there.

Dragged it down to a track an got the Lux, loaded her up an Finished with quite a few frothies.

Anyway, heres a few photos fromt he Hunt on Saturday.

Cheers
