Same gun all the time??

For deer, I almost always go out with the 257Roberts, despite the fact that I have nicer ones in there. The 760 Carbine 308 never goes anymore and for no good reason. The 270 is a nicer rifle, but the 257 is luckier. The 375 is heavier than all of them and I'm lazy.

I will have 4 new ones that will have to be blooded this year. Not sure just how I will do that and go bird hunting with the new dog, but, there has to be a way.
For many years all I used were a 7-08 or a ,338WM. Over the last 12 mos I've acquired guns that I wanted because they were different than what I'd been shooting, special edition in a gun I like, a big bore, a light stalking rifle, and a double rifle. And of course with having the new dog, I'm tied up with working on training it for this fall.

I carry something different every year and I usually bring 3 to camp. I get teased for it but so what. I like guns! I'm hoping to be carrying my brand new 1886 45-90 this fall. I've purchased all the reloading components and a Lyman receiver peep site for it. I don't have the rifle yet, though.

How many of you buy big game rifles, perhaps one or two a year - or even more, but when hunting season comes around, you end up taking the same old gun as always because you just can't leave it in the safe?

Or am I out to lunch on this?

That is me for sure. I read something the other day that almost 60% of used rifles have not had a box of shells fired out of them. Seems high but possible for sure

It seems I alway grab my Grandfather's Rem 700 in 300 mag as I do not have to think when shooting this, and it has never missed for me, also have a Man Shonener 1903 in 6.5 carbine, that is set up with peeps for anything I need to kill. This year though I am going to finanlly try a new gun that just arrived a BRNO 602 358 NM, we'll see if it can match up to these 2 magical rifles that just plain fit me and work! Dale Z!

I'll admit, I have gone through 192 rifles/shotguns/pistols in the last 25 months. (counted the stack of certificates) and I still end up taking my same 2 rifles. (ruger hawkeye .270win stainless with green hogue overmold stock) and my Howa ss/hogue O.M. black stock in .300wm, as I KNOW these are accurate, reliable, and they both fit me to a tee.
The others, I constantly buy/sell , because in the quest for the perfect rifle, unless you have actually TRIED THEM ALL, you cannot truly say you are using the best.

you my friend was the registrations program worst enemy. LOL Good on you!

I seam to take my old 375 h&h ruger 1 every time and i have alot of others but i have killed at least 1 animal with them all just like the old girl. But i ordered a cooper in 35whelen and when i get her it might justvturn into my go to

I used a Ruger M77 tang safety for deer, elk, and moose for years, and no issues
using the 150 grain Nosler Partition cartridge. Now I use the .270 for deer with 140 grain Nosler Accubonds, and the elk and moose see my 30.06 loaded with 168 grain Barnes Vor-tx TTSX ammo. Got my first moose with the 30.06 last year, one round bang-flop.

I have my favorites that I tend to use more then others but I try my best to rotate through them all from season to season. I don't believe in having them sit in a safe for extended periods of time. They will all see action at the range annually but my swede, 7mm 08', and 270 WTHBY have seen most of the action the last few years.

For years it was either my McMillan stocked Sako L61R in 375 H&H, or my old Mauser 9.3X62 for moose, caribou and bear. The sheep hunts were done with my Husqvarna 4100 in 270 Win.

Today it is the Harper 9.3X62 custom and a Husqvarna 270 in a Brown Precision Pounder stock.

Not quite down to one for everything yet. :)

Use two, the 308win and the bigger brother.
Depends on where for distance.
But now............. the BLR 81 358win is in there too.
I'll have to see what devastating charm this one has....... :)

Lol, well said. :D

Personally I'm trimming out the few safe queens I have left but some seem tougher to let go then others.
