Apart from the hk SL8 are there any other hk rifles or Russian rifles allowed in Canada or are we destined to re-discover the same old stuff( AR's M1A's SKS's) generation after generation and just add doodadds to them to make them seem different ( hey look, a different handle! Holy moly, different colours for the stock and a compartment to hold an emergency bic-lighter/fire-starter! Yes, an embarrassment of riches. Canada is gizmo-rich. Too bad we have a set stock of rifle brands from which choose.

I think the Kalashnikov type rifles would be appreciated in our cold climate. The hunters in our north could certainly benefit from them and any Ranger group would appreciate having them to guard our soverignty. They work in extreme temperatures. If they are semi-automatic where is the problem?

Looks? Only the unbalanced would react with great fear when seeing these rifles. I suppose our government still considers Germany an enemy as they mus the new democratic Russia. Bith countries have made dramatic changes yet our government equates their firearms with terrorism and extremism.

The message is clear to these nations, "Hurry up and become like us but we will still distrust and dislike you" No Russian firearms and no German firearms. Truly our government does not like their allies.

It isn't so much that this government doesn't like our allies, it's more that it doesn't trust it's own citizens. When they went through the firearms deciding which ones to prohibit, anything with a pistol grip or other 'evil' parts were placed on the no touch/no import list. Anything that could be converted to automatic function (even though you would need to mill the receiver amongst other things) were also a big no-no.

Big government looking out for your best interests. It will take an awful lot to reverse what has come before. Probably not in this lifetime if ever. Politics at it's finest.

The action freezes on most rifles but not so easily on a G-3 or a Kalashnikov. If they did freeze then the Russians and Chinese would not have been able to kill each other along their frontier.
The aforementioned actions will not freeze. Rangers are simply not trusted enough to own those rifles. Well no one in Canada is trusted enough actually.

The rifles would work.

I believe the Canadian gvt tried to give the Rangers some AR-15 but they failed in the cold climate... Meanwhile, the gvt had scrapped the Lee-Enfileds and had to buy new ones for reissue to the Rangers. Once again, our tax dollars were wasted by the Liberals.

well you know what they say when you join the libral party they cut your nads off :D

thats why librals don't like guns there a bunch of pussys

then again the conservitives are on the ethical down side to the only policy i support them on is firearms every thing else i could care less about what they have to lie about like ass holes like ron do thomas from the ajax riding who really needs to get his facts streaght

The rangers should be given the mothballed FAL's.

Oh that's right, they metled them down instead of putting them into war reserve.

The FNC1 can freeze up easily too. I saw someone break the cocking handle right off trying to cycle the frozen action.

The American military never seemed to have cycling problems with their trial AR15s in Alaska in the winter. I can't see why we'd have problems when they wouldn't. Is there anyone on the forum that can speak from experience regarding the AR15/M16/C7 in cold climates?

Calum you are correct. I lived in Finland for a while and was going to buy an RK95 civvy version of the rifle. They are abut 3500 Euros.
However they are the best rifles anywhere. They have both the reliability of the Kalashnikov and the accuracy of an Armalite and this is not just idle talk. Many Finns have them and will not part with them. I can purchase one as I know some people who can find me one for sale. Trouble is bringing it here.

Our Rangers should have this rifle. They deserve it and deserve better than they have presently

No issues in the cold with the C7/C8
Just more internet morons spouting junk. Follow the proper lub for the temp and your GTG

The Canadian Rangers kept the .303 Lee-Enfields since they shoot large game - and as well use soft point ammo.

Rangers don't want 5.56mm rifles, they hunt with their guns too, and need larger calibers.

As to whether or not we are hard done by because we don't get a couple rifles that some folks want, I think we are doing better than ever. There are lots of new models introduced every year.

Sure new models are introduced but never the ones people like, such as the Valmets, Kalashnikovs built on RPK receivers and HK94's.

Valmets are no longer produced. AKs are only one type. HK94s are one type, and all of the new HK types are available if HK will sell them to you.

Seems to me that all you are interested in is AKs. So if they were allowed would you also be moaning about the fact that they were all the same and there was nothing different?

Actually I like Hk94's and Sako 95's becuase both have a 30 caliber round and both operating systems are simple and reliable. I have found lots of HK94's for sale but am unable to get it into Canada. I am not moaning. It just seems like what I like is not allowed with no reason or an unreasonable reason given. All rifles shoot bullets and all semi-automatic rifles shoot them one at a time. this is not a moan just a statement of fact. I don't like stupidity in laws or rules. A little bit of logic would go a long way.

I don't think there's a single Canadian out there that likes the Canadian gun laws. Doesn't matter if you're a gunhater or a gunlover, they're no good for anyone.

I could not have put it better myself.
