It might not be a white Christmas but it's going to be a good one!

Remington 700P .308 (bedded, trigger tuned)
Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 Zero Stop NP-R1
ATRS 20MOA Rail, TPS Rings
ATRS Bolt Knob
Versapod 7-9 bipod

Range report soon :)

Very nice. That looks eerily similar to the one I bought a few months back. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the scope. I'm still running an old hunting scope while I save a bit.

Here's mine from ATRS as well:

The guys at ATRS do great work and were excellent to deal with.

First impressions is the nightforce is fantastic. It is almost TOO well built and feels like a war club. Optics are crystal clear. Awesome reticle clarity. I hope to get to the range tomorrow to give it a good work through.

Couldn't help but take a picture of the new 'family', all acquired in the last month. I've wanted to get back into firearms for the last 10 years so I'm jumping in without looking back.

Nice! Sticking with the stock barrel?? Let us know how she shoots.

For the time being; I figured after laying out the cash I best see how it shoots in stock form first before dropping more money into it. Who knows it might be one of those magical 0.5 moa remingtons. Either way I'm sure it shoots better than I do at this point.

Of course it's 1/2 moa..... Isn't every online rifle a 1/2 moa shooter?? LOL.

Seriously though, let us know how she shoots. I'd look at getting into loading if I was you.

Range Report!

Had the rifle out today for a few hours to break it in and got 60 rounds down the pipe.

Disclaimer: This is my first 'high powered' rifle.

I setup my targets out at 100 yards and went about sighting it in. Holy heck does this have a lot more recoil than my 22LR! I developed a flinch after the first few shots and it took awhile to 'get it out of my system' but after a box of ammo (Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr SMK) I was getting used to it and could tell when I was anticipating the shot. Still have a LOT of work to do though.

After reading a lot about break in techniques I formed my own opinion. Mechanically speaking I can't see any reason why a break in would exist for a barrel unless that barrel did not meet proper tolerances for the caliber. I cleaned after the first round fired and only found minor copper fouling. I then cleaned after the next 3 rounds and found zero copper, only powder. I did that once more and then cleaned again after the next 10 rounds fired. Again there was zero copper and only powder. Good enough for me! I'd expect to see plenty of copper fouling on a barrel that needed break in. I'll clean it again now that an additional 30 shots went down the pipe and will consider break in done.

Once I got it sighted in I decided to shoot a few groups. It was getting late in the day (and the range was about to close in 40 minutes). Below are the two best groups, both are 3 shots. All groups were sub MOA except for the ones where I had flyers due to flinching. Really going to have to work on that. Pulled some shots out of the group but a good few inches on those.

For my first time out though with a 308 I am *VERY* pleased. Could it be a magic sub .25 moa factory Remington (with some ATRS love.)

On the Nightforce I had a lot of trouble with the reticle focus with higher magnifications at closer distances (eg 100yards.) It was perfect at distances past 200 yards at all magnification ranges but at closer ranges anything over about 12x I found the reticle not in focus and very difficult to see. I'll have to play around more with it to see if I can figure it out. I wear glasses and have terrible eyesight so it's very likely the problem is my own eyes inability to focus on the reticle in that circumstance.

Overall though I am VERY pleased.

Fabulous!

Can you give an indication of how much the Nightforce scope runs and is the platform suitable for 5.56mm?

Never mind on the scopes :( I took a look at ATRS website and those scopes are wayyyyy beyond my budget... for now.

Spend some time making sure the paralax on the scope is set up properly for your eye. I adjust mine at full magnification.

I lent my Nightforce scope to a friend and he hated it because the cross hair was always fuzzy. He never adjusted the paralax for his eye.

At full magnification i can still get a crisp sight picture with my 5.5 x 22 scopes at 75yards.

Anything closer than that and i need to dial down the magnification.
