Sara Lao - IPSC Canada?

Mebius...........it is not negativity. It is FAMILY. Sarah is a very active, excellent example of what is good in IPSC and the shooting sports in general. You admit to seeing a single pic of her and now want her to be thrust into the limelight. It is obvious you are basing it solely on her looks. That is what has people getting the knives out. In short one might say that you just commented on a young ladies looks in a room full of her brothers and uncles. We know her and love her for the person we KNOW her to be. In the end you are however very correct in your assessment. She would indeed be an excellent ambassador. She is intelligent, well spoken and an excellent shooter who puts mediocre lumps like me to shame with regularity.
I think if you had asked more questions about her and approached this from a slightly different angle your responses would have been vastly different.

From my perspective this thread is a fine example to all as to why one should be shooting IPSC. We tend to take care of our own young like a mother bear. It is just too bad you cannot see the error in your approach.

Oh and I believe that Sarah is rather busy with her studies at this point in her young life.........

I believe that mebuispowers thoughts are the furthest thing away from a scantily clad photo shoot.

In his defence, you guys call yourselves uncles and brothers and yadda yadda. Some of you have been shooting IPSC a lot longer then I have been alive most likley. So the defence mechanism kicks in for sure.

Sarah is a new bright face, a hell of a shooter and competitor and a busy busy gal. A perfect candidate for a IPSC Canada rep, but if she cant or doesnt want to, so be it!!

I think there was no ill will in his comments. YMMV

Jessie gets payed for being on NRA tv, where would ipsc get the funds to hire payed spokespersons?

hey, if you're potentially thinking of being a publicist for someone, maybe you ought to learn how to spell words properly before taking on the job, yes?

paid. not payed. pay. pays. paid.

and i think Sara (or someone like Sara) would be a better ambassador for any shooting sport than some middle-aged white guy. i think the firearms community AS A WHOLE wants to attract the people who are still growing up, and not just the old fogies. i think that the broader an audience is hit, the better the chances of firearms being accepted in our "anti" society long-term. a young person - and even better a female - reaches a lot more people than anyone else, and yes it's 80% based on those details: young, female, and photogenic. you can call it exploitation if you want, but others would rather call it an opportunity and "having all the right ingredients". she likely shouldn't be forced into it, but she ought to be seriously encouraged because she can likely be more successful than a 35-year-old white dude with a scruffy beard and a receding hairline.

This is the sort of negativity that this sport consists of. If you continue to think people are whoring themselves out for the sake of making money, then you have failed miserably to think outside of the box.

I never said she should be promoting IPSC. IPSC doesn't need to be promoted and you would agree. Small ideas for people with small minds.

Thanks for reminding me why I don't shoot IPSC anymore.

Well stated, that's probably why after 10 years that I gave up on IPSC also!

paid. not payed. pay. pays. paid.

Both are correct, although paid is more commonly recognised as correct.

It is the same for said and sayed as both forms are correct.

anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering....
manage your emotions better. have a great day.

Because of who she is as a person and as a competitor, Sarah is already an ambassador for the sport of IPSC. The fact that she doesn't have to be, and isn't paid to be, makes it all the more genuine. and powerful. She is certainly living proof that you don't need to be a guy to enjoy and be good at dynamic pistol shooting.

Man, I wish I could write as eloquently as that. Nice job, Rob.

New, huh?! Sara's balck badge is dated 2006 and she has been provincial champion since 2008, as well as multiple time National champion in Laties category.

No one likes a quitter.....LOL

I didn't give up on shooting, I started competing in 1986 and still shoot 20+ matches a year. I just found another shooting discipline that met my expectations of what a shooting sport should be and one where the competitors interact with respect to each other. Something I didn't find in some shooting disciplines that I have shot in.

Which one is this?

I've only been shooting since late 2009, but I have not seen members be disrespectful to each other.
For the most part, everyone becomes pretty good friends and spend time together off the range.
I don't know what it was like back in 1986, or how people treat each other in the Canadian Badlands.... but I typically find respect is a reciprocal thing.
You give it, you'll receive it.
You don't, you won't

First off I am well aware of her accomplishments, as I said before Sara and her family need no introductions. However what I meant about her face being "new" was the fact she is younger then most of the people I see shooting IPSC matches. And by no way does that slander any of the more experienced then me.

Second. I fixed your spelling mistakes, as petty as that is. If your going to pick apart someones comments make sure yours are good first.

And finally, as Rob put it Sara as well as the rest of us are all ambassadors for IPSC and action shooting. Think about it.

I don't think cowboy action works for me... However I have always wondered... what if you're a native? Cowboy action must suck if every time you show up to participate you get chased off the land and they smash your teepee.

And I'm Chinese. Does that mean I show up to do everyone's laundry or lay down rail?
