The myth was not busted.

The first time Mythbusters did this test they used a modern scope which had more lenses and internal hardware.

After a media backlash they revisted the test and used a period correct scope and determined the shot was plausible...... ;)

They also didn’t use FMJ ammo, I think that would have also made a big difference.
 
That record was broken in 2009 by Cpl. Robert Furlong (PPCLI) in Afghanistan and was eclipsed again by a British Household Cavalry sniper a couple of years later.

And then the Brits were totally smoked by the JTF2's kill shot at 2540 metres last year. Maintain the pride already.
