Sask First moose ever!

I'm not sure why they aren't showing up. They are on photobucket. I'll try again. And I got this guy just outside of Kuroki. He ran across the hiway in front of me on my way to another spot at 1:30 in the afternoon!!

I just can't get used to moose being on the prairie! By the scrub bush in the pictures it looks almost like typical moose country, but hey, that's as much bush as you will find around Kuroki.
You have a nice trophy, oops maybe I should wash my mouth with soap for using that word, but it looks like he may have lost a lot of weight trying to propagate the moose population.

Prairie moose is where its at. We had to sort my son's opening day moose out of the mule deer and pronghorns, but it beats the hell out of carrying one on your back.

And they taste soooo good, way better than the ones out of the forest up north.
I do love the hunting experience up north though. You can't replicate that in the wheat fields.

I had just dropped my pickup off at the dealer in Wadena for some repairs(G-damn emission crap), and my neighbour and I headed out for an afternoon tour at 1pm. This fella ran across the hiway in front of us on the way to our area. Watched him cross a field of swathed canola, head down all the way, and I took him on the next quarter which was already harvested. Funny thing though, I hadn't even put my knife on him yet, when another bull, just slightly smaller, stopped in front of the truck about 30 ft, and was wondering what we were doing!! LOL!!, That one was on the same trail as the first one. Too bad we didn't have another tag!

Very nice. I was thinking you must be applying for farmland area tags if it took 8 years then I read further on about him in a Canola field and said yup!! Lol. Thats a good antler spread for a farmland Moose. I see many in my travels too but very few wide spreads. Congratulations on a fine animal.

Its a real mind bender when you see one in the fields Bruce. They sure stand out. I have seen two this past week not 5 minutes from the house while scouting for geese. One was in an alfalfa field, the other a harvested barley field. You can hunt them in your running shoes in that kind of terrain. Talk about non-traditional?! Lol

Yessir, Zone 39. Been here about 8 years now. The zone runs from Kelvington, South to Ituna and east to Yorkton. One of the largest zones in the province. Up until about 4 years ago I think, there was only 25 tags available for the entire zone! Now there are 60 either ### tags and 100 antlerless tags, and after this weekend, I think they could easily add another hundred tags. In the maybe 20 mile radius that I was hunting, easily counted at least 30 different moose, bulls, cows, calfs. They are everywhere and doing a lot of damage on the hiways too.
