Sask gopher safari

Don't you know, these activities are politically in-correct, and the gopher is now an endangered species, protected under federal law

How awful! To suggest that people shoot these poor, cute little animals. Couldn't we just relocate them, say, to the yards of the snowflakes? :p

Although there aren't the numbers lately, there are still a few hot spots. For two years now, I have been doing my civic duty for a young organic farmer. He farms a whole bunch of land and doesn't poison unless it gets entirely out of hand. I also have a honey hole right near home. :)

Lucky you.

Planning a road trip to AB this summer to take the kids gopher shooting, hoping we can find a a place.

Grew up in Edmonton area and spent many summers in farmer's fields helping the cause.

As a Sask resident, I can tell you that the gopher population is not what it used to be 10 years ago. There were some bad, wet springs combined with every landowner poisoning that took its toll on them. You used to be able to sit in one spot and shoot for hours on end on every quarter of land. Now you really have to search for those "honey holes" and even if you shoot for an hour, you're done and need to find another spot.

They are slowly coming back, but its taking some time. I'm thankful they're coming back because it's definitely my favorite spring time hobby.

Its worse in Manitoba, its been years since I have seen any field full of gophers. hell they are practically unicorns now

Wow, good info on the population, assumed they'd still be rampant.

Been 30yrs since I was out and it was as per above, pack a lunch, sit down and shoot non-stop all afternoon.

I thought last year started out REALLY good, but then it started to be like 30+ degrees all the time so I stopped going. Got a feeling that this year will be really good again.
